If you were going to change out piston rings, say to change from standard tension oil rings to low tension oil rings or the other way around, would you deglaze the bores? Or if the bores look good just gap'em and go.

Thanks,

If I was changing rings, I would at the very least hit the bores with a dingle ball hone. That would be in the case of a decent bore, with no inconsistent wear showing.
Snohomish huh? what does your camaro look like, I've probably seen it around. I live right on the west side of snohomish overlooking the valley.

68rs406,

Thanks for the advice on bore prep for changing rings.

My car currently is red with black Z stripes, needs new paint however. I am pretty sure you haven't seen it. I just moved it up here from the Covington area in the first part of April. It doesn't get out much at all and hasn't for about 12 years. I have done some drag racing at SIR and some cruising around since I stopped driving it daily in '94. I am gathering the parts to make a nice all-around driver out of it again. Starting with the brakes and suspension, this is an area that I haven't done much with on the car. Four wheel drum brakes just don't cut it and the suspension is good in a straight line only. My '98 Z has spoiled me too much.

No problem, well hopefully you'll have it on the road again soon. Your '98 has the creature comforts but just can't compare to the enjoyment of driving old muscle, IMO
I've spent lots of time out at SIR (Pacific raceways now I guess), I bracket raced my 5 liter mustang a lot in the early 90's, and have raced my Camaro out there some as well, but lately most my time out there has been helping my buddy out with his pro street car, its always a good time.
