View Full Version : Exhaust Manifold Stove Sheild Question

I bought a set of exhaust manifolds on e-bay for my 69 350/300 and I'm going to blast them and paint them w/ cast blast. I'm trying to go back to orig. w/ my car and the right manifold has the manifold pre-heat upper and lower stove sheilds attached, which is great because I need them.
I thought these were screwed on, but they are attached w/ a round top rivet or pin. Any way to get these off short of drilling them out or grinding them down ?
If I do drill them out where can I get replacements ?

Also anyone know what color the stove sheilds should be ?

Thanks
Billy

Rivets from www.mcmaster.com

Shield color is sheet metal gray.

Billy, Shear them off with a good sharp chisel. Use a sharp punch to get your drill started. Drill them out. You can also get the rivets from Classics or any other Parts suppliers. I left the sheet metal the way it came from Classic Inds.

Thanks once again, this place is great.
I checked Rick's for the rivets, but they didn't have them.
Sure enough, Classic does.
I will blast the sheilds and leave them natural.

You can usually just get them loosened-up with a chisel and hammer and then pry them out with a good wrecking/nail puller type prybar.

Your local Chevy (or most GM) dealer will have the replacement rivets in bags of 10 under part #1022947 - you'll find them much cheaper than the repopper ones...

Hope this helps;
John
