View Full Version : manifolds ? Which One? dukeme Jul 11th, 06, 09:48 AM I am in the market to change manifolds with a higher plemun. I was told the Edelbrock RPM GAP would be the one? I currently have a Weiand Stealth Intake Manifold with a 750 mighty demon mounted on top. Any suggestions? DOUG G Jul 11th, 06, 01:52 PM If you're only testing why not try a 1 or 2" spacer ? Cheaper :D and see what happens. dukeme Jul 11th, 06, 08:30 PM Well, the RPM AIR GAP is preped and ready to be installed...So far, smooth...I hope I do not run into any problems when putting the distributor back in? Thanks Doug. pdq67 Jul 11th, 06, 09:13 PM Fwiw, here is how I look at this.. The old Holley 300-36, true high-rise dual-plane intake is about the tallest one there is of the conventional dual plane intakes.. I mention this b/c here is just about the tallest so-called, dual plane intake going; Hi-Tech Torklink Intake www.hi-techengine.com/images/racing_products.pdf It is a midrange torque producing roundy-round motor intake!! And it probably won't fit under a stock hood at all!! The E-brock's are newer, but have alotta hype with them good or bad, you decide?? The old Holley/Weiand Stealth dual plane has the largest insides so go from there!! I'd go the Stealth!! And I have a brand new, in the box, 300-36 for my next junk301 type motor in my closet... Summit's price is right here............ pdq67 HarleyD67 Jul 11th, 06, 10:19 PM I had a Stealth on my old 350 and also ran it on my 427 and loved it. I tried a spacer and that helped, but I decided to go with a Team-G to get rid of some of my low end torque in favor of more upper end power. I still have allot more low end torque than I can plant on the street. The Stealth does see some upper rpm improvement on the dyno with 1/2"-1" spacers with the right cam. But if you already have the Air Gap have at'er. I personally don't think you will see more than minor hp improvement over the Stealth that is only really visible on the dyno. Just my $0.02. Straight-line-69 Jul 12th, 06, 08:51 AM I know Edelbrock has the magazines pushing the Air Gap,..but do a search on this site and others. Some like it,..while others don't believe it to be worth the extra cabbage (me included). pdq67 Jul 12th, 06, 11:33 AM That's what I'm politely trying to say too. But it's not my money.. pdq67 dukeme Jul 12th, 06, 02:24 PM Excellent dukeme Jul 12th, 06, 02:57 PM http://www.merchinv.com/manifold/Image001.JPG pdq67 Jul 12th, 06, 03:34 PM All I'm gonna say is you need to look real close at the old Holley, 300-36!! Fwiw, it is a TRUE high-rise! pdq67 RickD Jul 12th, 06, 04:19 PM And Weiand now has a new dual plane out to compete with the RPM/Air Gap. HarleyD67 Jul 12th, 06, 11:33 PM I know Edelbrock touts it's quality and great gasket alignment. And I'm not trying to take anything away from that but, I run Fel-Pro 1205 intake gaskets with 2.09 in. x 1.28 in. port dim. and, my Team-G matched up perfectly. In fact it is so close that I didn't even gasket match it. The #4 runner opening was the only one that was even of a little and that was only 1/32" on one side of the port.:D I couldn't have asked for a better match, and my old Stealth was a great match to the Fel-Pro 1256. Although that did have a couple edges that hung in @ 1/16" but still. Now I'm not saying Edelbrock is bad I'm just saying I've been real impressed with Weiand. dukeme Jul 13th, 06, 03:37 PM The Manifold and total install is complete and it works. The only problem I ran into the vaccume line for the break boster is to high for the demon secondary float bowel. So, a 1" spacer...Well, look and see for yourself! http://www.merchinv.com/manifold/IMG_0087.JPG |
