View Full Version : Air Noise Problem From Brake Application

I installed a new power brake unit, disc calipers, ball joints, tie rods, coil springs, a whole new suspension on my '69. But when I apply the brakes, they grab just fine but I'm hearing a "whoosh" sound. I think its a vacuum sound. Another amateur garage mechanic thinks the new brake booster is defective; I don't think so because the brakes are working fine. Any ideas, gentlemen?

The "whoosh" sound is normal - that's air being drawn into the back of the booster; that said, there's supposed to be a foam seal where the pedal pushrod goes into the back of the booster that acts as a muffler where that air enters. If the seal is missing, you'll hear the air - if it's in place, you won't hear it.
