Many of the Repro houses are selling what they call "orginal GM" carb. heat shields for square bore carbs. Where these ever orginal on Holley equiped Z's?
Could they be considered dealer installed or were they never offered on dual feed carbed Chevys at all?

Is THIS (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=HLY%2D108%2D70&N=400178+300701+115&autoview=sku) what you are referring to? (Aftermarket, but similar to the GM part.) If so, the Group 3.726 "Insulator, Carburetor Heat" started in 1972 for Corvette's, Camaro's, and probably throughout the Chevrolet line.
There were actually two versions:
P/N 3998912 - 350 except Special high Performance (Rochester carbs)
P/N 3999259 - 350 W/Special High Performance (Holley carbs)
So to answer your question, no, this was not used from the factory on the first generation Camaro, but I remember going to the local dealer and getting a few for my cars! Anything to keep the fuel cooler...
