View Full Version : Need front leaf spring torque bracket

After removing the rear seat floor pan on the driver side, we found the bracket that sandwhiches between the floor and front leaf spring holder rotted enough to cause concern. It is somewhat triangular and has critical mounting holes for the leaf spring bracket. (Pardon my description as I'm doing my non-technical best <lol> )
I've been told to make one up, but am wondering if there is a source for these. They seem to be made out of at least 12 gauge metal, and so not easily bent. If not available, would cutting and MIG'ing the parts together be O.K.?

New one piece full floors seem to be the only way to get this piece new. Some guys reuse their original when installing a full floor and sell the ones removed from the new floor.Thats your best bet.

My view is they are already making them if the full floor pans come with torque boxes already attached.
The question is, will they sell them seperately, or do they expect you to buy the full floor pan?
I'll have one fabbed or locate useable originals before I'd do that.

If you decide to make your own boxes, I suggest you visit a metal shop with dimensions of parts needed and they will shear them for you to assemble and weld together. It will be stronger than original.

I can't believe my luck! graemlins/hurray.gif
I contacted some resto shops and found a shop with a pair of new ones off a restoration full floor pan install they didn't need and are selling to me. They're $65 each. Worth it to me.
Now being a realist, how will I pay for this good fortune?

When I bought my '69, it came with alot of new sheet metal, including new LH & RH full floorpans. My driver side pan is already out, that's why I need the brackets.
......no, there's some other interesting issue waiting for me in the winds.

I need a set of these brackets as well. I emailed a guy selling the full floors on ebay as well as NPD just now.

OK. NPD does not sell these pieces. I didn't think they would, or our contact at www.shermanparts.com (http://www.shermanparts.com) would have them too...

Sorry for the late reply, I've been very busy.
This is how I lucked into the torque brackets....
I contacted a lot of restoration shops both by email and by phone. I got lucky and had a resto shop email me back that they just got done replacing a full floor pan, and they didn't need the torque brackets. They asked if I would LIKE TO BUY BOTH brackets? YYYYYYYeah!!!!!
I've received the brackets. They are brand new and e-coated. I can see where they drilled the spot welds to remove it from the floorpan. I'm gonna mike both my original and new bracket to see if the supplier cheated on gage. I'll post my finding.
I gotta believe they'll be selling these before too long.

That looks great even better than the original, or the repo full floor version, if you look at the pic below, it looks like the repo is really thin, dont know? I'd like to make my own before opening up everything,.... we need dimensions..
