View Full Version : classic car insurance namz111 Jul 14th, 06, 06:14 PM Right now i have Hagerty Ins for my car whats everyone else use? who has the best rates? orange 68 Jul 14th, 06, 06:17 PM I have Hagerty because a friend of mine had his 69 camaro stolen and Hagerty paid him off the agreed value without much question within 30 days. Hard to beat the service!! I haven not had a claim and hope I don't but that service and the agreed value seems good to me. fasthotrodtodd Jul 14th, 06, 06:29 PM I'm going to get Hagerty on my car. I have a friend that has a Topless 67 and he is very pleased with the rates. I have looked at several insurance company's and they do have the best coverage for the money. Gehrkmania Jul 14th, 06, 07:30 PM I have mine insured through these guys: http://www.americancollectorsins.com/index.php USAA hooked me up with them, & I've been happy so day. No claims though - so not sure how they'd be if they had to cough up money my way... Rebird Jul 14th, 06, 07:39 PM i tried hagerty but they doubled the quote once they i told them i had a roll bar.... it went from $300 to $620.... so i went to gruden and pay $290 with agreed value.... i hope i never have a claim! 67RS/SS396 Jul 14th, 06, 07:59 PM Hagerty for sure they insure both 67's and my sons 68 rs vert. w/ my wife son and me as drivers. for less than 700.00 a yr. big mike Jul 14th, 06, 09:09 PM I also have Hagerty. I haven't had a claim, (and I hope I never do!) but I did use one of the three free tows they give you each year. Absolutely no complaints. Mike 3forme Jul 14th, 06, 09:40 PM I have Hagerty also and have always been very happy but after adding a 3rd car I did not realize that all cars had to be garaged when not in use. I have a two car garage and they found out and booted my 67 convert from the policy. Do all classic insurers require this? click Jul 14th, 06, 09:54 PM Hagerty here too and yes they do have conditions like locked garage storage when not in use. No drivers unless a 5 year clean driving record, no MAJOR power stuff like roll bars and engines sticking thru the hood :) pretty common with insurers. Again, only get 'AGREED' value policy. Alot of insurance companies not normally covering classic cars, dont have that and if totaled you get screwed. I had windshield claim with Hagerty, check was in my hands in 3 days. 3forme Jul 14th, 06, 10:17 PM I agree Jim, Hagerty is great (although I've had no claims knock on wood) maybe somebody is telling me to downsize. They prefer a locked self-storage type place so thats my last resort. Its frustrating having the room and paying storage fees and having a car away from home. Tom Weaver Jul 14th, 06, 10:41 PM I have USAA, based out of San Antonio TX. I can drive my car and take it any where including a restaurant or where ever. I'm alowed up to 2,500 miles a year. Insured Value of $60,000 for $140 a year. Hagerty wouldn't let me enjoy my car to the fullest. They state you must be with it all times or take it to and from a show only. I love my car, but also have a life too. mkpatrick Jul 14th, 06, 11:01 PM Parish Heacock is who I have and they've been great. Hagerty wouldn't insure me because I have a roll bar. PH didn't care about the bar, as long as it was garaged. camcojb Jul 14th, 06, 11:10 PM I have USAA, based out of San Antonio TX. Problem with USAA is they are stated value, not agreed. No guarantee you'll get $60K if the car is totaled or stolen. Jody BNZFixr Jul 14th, 06, 11:36 PM They state you must be with it all times or take it to and from a show only. I love my car, but also have a life too. I have Hagerty. I can drive all I want and only restriction really is to and from work (commute). I did not find any better when shopping for ins. nikkisdad Jul 15th, 06, 12:23 AM I had Haggerty, but the rotten buggers dropped my insurance without any notice to me at all! We drove my 67 convert around for about 2 months without knowing it was not insured. I used Haggarty for about 7 years on the car, and when my wife called to inquire if my daughter could be put on the policy when she turned 16, they said no it not possible and quietly dropped us without a reason or notice. My daughter was only 14 at the time, and we just wanted to see if it would be possible in two years to ad her on the policy. I was livid when I found out, contacted a lawyer friend, he told me where there was no accident of claim it probally was not worth the effort. I never had any claim for the 7 years, paid premiums on time, and they could not explain a reason for dropping us. I made many calls with my complaint of being dropped, only to get nothing more than lip service. No one would take responsibility, no one wanted to be bothered, just phone tag forever. I understand many have had good luck with them, and I am not bashing, but I feel very screwed over by them. I now have Condon & Skelly, basicly the same price and coverage, no problems. TClovis Jul 15th, 06, 12:24 AM I went with Grundy. $220.00 for an agreed of 25k. Unreal Jul 15th, 06, 06:12 AM Haggerty was the only one I could find who would insure my Yenko Tribute before it was completed. I think they insured for $25, painted, no interior, no bumpers, etc. Then $35 after completed. Last year I bumped it to $45, and I just called them to bump it to $55. That caused them to review my records, and realized that the only pics they have is of the unfinished version. They asked for updated pics, and told me I had to fill out a "Custom Car" questionaire. I told them my car was not a custom, but they said since it is a clone, it is considered a custom. (I guess that would make half the cars out there customs!) Anyway, the questionaire asks about custom paint, custom interiors, custom motors, etc...nothing that is really relavent to my car. Not sure how this will play out...I'll keep you posted. namz111 Jul 15th, 06, 07:00 AM after looking at my bill from hagerty it seems a little high .....$252.00 and they only have the car valued at 29k big mike Jul 15th, 06, 09:09 AM $252.00 a year for a $29,000.00 investment is high? click Jul 15th, 06, 09:12 AM insured mine for $40k with 100 mile flat bed tow service, options on insurance change it too. $260 for mine for a year, VERY reasonable I think. Bgonz 69 Jul 15th, 06, 09:53 AM A lot of hagerty users!!! I use a company called JC TAYLOR. I've had one LARGE claim in 10 years and they have been great !! My rates are very reasonable, and when i needed them they were there ! prostreet69camaro Jul 15th, 06, 10:11 AM I used to have mine with American Collector Ins. but if you have a claim, you will need receipts. They do not pay on stated value. Now I have a prostreet car, roll bar, blower motor, big tires. I had to state I would not race it also. They did insure it for $ 50,000 and it is modified insurance. I had to fill out a form on what it cost to do the car and supply pictures. No problem but it is a little high. $ 780.00 a year. But they pay on stated value. 3forme Jul 15th, 06, 10:16 AM nikkisdad, I know you have a lot of cars, does your company require garaging as well on everycar? Thanks. namz111 Jul 15th, 06, 10:18 AM yes hagerty does Blown69RS Jul 15th, 06, 10:37 AM I used to have mine with American Collector Ins. but if you have a claim, you will need receipts. I had to fill out a form on what it cost to do the car and supply pictures. No problem but it is a little high. $ 780.00 a year. But they pay on stated value. I have the ProStreet setup also.... rollbar, blower, narrowed 9", etc.... I have my coverage through Grundy. Agreed upon value, $45k coverage (Grundy "Modified" category). All they requested was that I tell them what modifications have been done. I gave them fairly accurate costs of each particular area though. My rates are only $323 per year. The American Collector Ins. rate seems way too high to me.... just an opinion. camcojb Jul 15th, 06, 10:43 AM I used to have mine with American Collector Ins. but if you have a claim, you will need receipts. I think American Collector is agreed value. That's the only one with a guaranteed amount to be paid without comps, etc. Jody Gary L Jul 15th, 06, 12:21 PM Yes, I have American Collectors. It is agreed value. namz111 Jul 15th, 06, 12:25 PM ok so what is better? agreed value or stated value? click Jul 15th, 06, 12:29 PM Agreed is the only one you want. Your car is going UP in value each year not down like your daily driver. With Agreed value if its stolen or totaled you get the value you agree on when you start the policy, example $30,000, they write you a check for that. If you have stated value you are subject to the insurance company saying that a 'simiilar' car on ebay sold for $20,000 so they will only pay you the $20,000 not what its really worth. Be cautious of anything other than agreed value. :) Dayton68Z28 Jul 15th, 06, 12:38 PM Hagerty here too. $50k for $375/yr. MY396 Jul 15th, 06, 02:04 PM I have American Collectors, they will insure unfinished cars. They insured my COPO for 65K for $329.00 a year and it is unfinished. Leonard1 Jul 16th, 06, 09:35 AM Grundy here. No mileage limitations, AGREED value, but the vehicle must normally be kept in a locked garage. I have had a claim, and am still VERY happy with them. They were comparable to Hagerty in price. My only advice is to pay a little extra, and be sure you are covered on the value. These cars are extremely expensive to repair, especially if you are looking at NOS items. 69vert Jul 16th, 06, 04:55 PM Will HAgerty's or anyone insure a work in progress? Neighbor told me to shoot another coat of black primer over the bondo and tell them the car is black. I just want to get it street legal so I can do a couple of shakedown runs before I get to paint. Bob David_396 Jul 16th, 06, 06:15 PM I have Hagerty. '67 Chevelle SS 25K for $195 a year jm69ss Jul 16th, 06, 06:59 PM American Collectors here because they insured my work-in-progress. I'm almost done with the resto and I'll be switching over to Sneed insurance. Alot of the NHRA guys use them. They are the only ones I have found that will actually let you pleasure drive your car whenever and wherever I want. They're about $100 a year more that Hagarty or ACI but worth it in my opinion for the peace of mind if I ever want to drive to work on a sunny day. nashcar Jul 16th, 06, 07:19 PM I went with Haggerty instead of J.C.Taylor because J.C.T. had too many driving restrictions. Haggerty, agreed value $50,000 -$375.00. Had to provide picture of car and the locked building it is stored in. They have many local carriers. Jeff H Jul 16th, 06, 08:45 PM I'm surprised you guys got coverage from American Collectors with a partially restored car. They told me it had to be 90% restored. They denied me coverage when they found out my brother had a ticket(we live in the same house and in NJ there is some form of household thing required). Hagerty cost me around $255 a year for my old 68 that was insured for $15K with full coverage. I just went through MK Insurance for my 70 L78 car and insured for $30K cost me $260 a year for full coverage. It's hard to compare numbers between the states but I would recommend getting a quote from places like Hagerty, Grundy or American Collectors. Then get a quote from MK Insurance and see how much better they can do. CamarosRus Jul 16th, 06, 11:44 PM I currently have Ameican Collectors on my COPO clone with $35K agreed coverage........They wont let you drive car to work.........which apparently means not even on the rare occasion to show car to your work buddies.....HOW do you get around that, IF you ever had a claim..... WHAT do I need to know or do about my AGREED policy, just because my 69 Camaro is a recreation of a COPO..........???????????? 65-66-69-CHEVYS Jul 17th, 06, 11:13 AM I use Continental western Group - Collector Cars program. I just had to use them for a big claim on 2 cars lost in a storm. They stated they were totaled, but I wanted to keep the cars and try to fix them again. So the adjuster worked with me to keep them from being wrote up as totaled. Heres a link so you can do free quotes and check it out for yourselves online. http://www.cwgcollectorcar.com/ cr8zy68 Jul 17th, 06, 12:45 PM Parish Heacock is who I have and they've been great. Hagerty wouldn't insure me because I have a roll bar. PH didn't care about the bar, as long as it was garaged. Same here. namz111 Jul 19th, 06, 04:18 PM Well i renewed my policy with hagerty costs me 262.00 for Agreed Value of 30k good for another year.. Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this topic! ;) ept000 Jul 20th, 06, 10:52 PM Just got an online quote from Haggerty.... $709.00!!!!!!! Are you kidding me. I am paying $246.00 right now! What did i do wrong???? kmotion Jul 21st, 06, 07:35 AM Just got an online quote from Haggerty.... $709.00!!!!!!! Are you kidding me. I am paying $246.00 right now! What did i do wrong???? Did you put in that the car is Modified? Hagerty seems very strict in their definition of Original versus Modified. And online Quotes for Modified cars are much higher than Toatlly Original cars. After watching some news specials on what the Insurance Companies denying folks claims on the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, I was very upfront with the Classic Car Insurance Companies and documented all the modifications and sent them many pictures of the cars although they only asked for one. Most folks would look at our cars and not see any "modifications" but I know what mods were made and was upfront with the insurers about them. Also paid very close attention on restrictions for use of the cars. Went with AON Classic Car Insurance because of the liberal use retrictions. Worth it to pay a little more up front and not have to worry about having a claim turned down later because of not meeting use restrictions IMHO. I can also drive it to work if I plan to go to a club meeting or use the vehicle for pleasure in the PM after work and it would be inconvient to return home to get the car. Good reason to talk with the ins broker that setup your daily driver and homeowners ins and ask them to get you classic car quotes. They don't all like to do it but if you have all your ins needs through them they usually will make an exception... ept000 Jul 21st, 06, 09:46 AM Is anybody using Americam Modern Home or American Modern Insurance?
