Hi,
I have a 69 Camaro with the original 350 block, 4-speed, 4.88 gear, supposedly engine was recently rebuilt with new steel crank, rods and pistons, pretty radical cam, headers, I wasn't able to get the details of the rebuild when I bought it. I pulled a valve cover and found head casting number 482624( or possibly 462624, tough to read). Are these heads "any good"? I was told the heads "were done", of course we don't really know what that means. Car has 570 Street Avenger Holly. Doesn't seem to have quite the power I think it should have. Any suggestions or comments, particularly on the heads?
Thanks
RJ

GM used this casting for several years, 1977-present day as a service replacement cylinder. They have 75.47 +- 2.20 cc combustion chambers and valves should be 1.94 / 1.5

Are you sure it's got 4.88 gears? Even with a mild build that thing should be all thrills in 1st and 2nd...

And the 570 should be as peppy as can be in the low to mid RPM range (not a great choice for a 4.88 gear though as that implies a lot of at or near wide open throttle operation in lower gears).

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I was told it had a 4.88 gear. I haven't checked it yet, but I suspect from the speed/rpm's that it might be closer to 4.10 or maybe 4.56. It does pull reasonably well in 1st and 2nd, just not quite what I thought it would do. I questioned if the 570 was too small, but I guess for street use with occasional wide open blasts, it's probably ok. It has an Edelbrock Torker II manifold by the way. Not very familiar with them at all. Also running stock HEI ignition. Was thinking about upgrade to MSD.

I also have dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40's Does anyone else have them here, and if so, how do you like them?

I've got 'em on my 69 SS350

Like 'em a lot. Deep sound with good top end too.
They can tend to drone or cause vibration at idle, and I understand the new "Delta" versions were designed to reduce this noise.
