View Full Version : Camaro - "Aloha Bobby and Rose" - movie. Hank Williams Jr. Jul 19th, 06, 07:22 PM Anyone seen this movie? I have not viewed, but I heard there is a first gen in it. Does this movie rank as a 'car movie' ? Worth the cost of the dvd to see it? zuma Jul 19th, 06, 07:31 PM Yes, it is worth the price of a rental. Scale of one to ten (ten being best), I would rate it a 6.5 - 7. Yeah, I would consider it somewhat of a car movie. Lots of shots of the 68 camaro; Here is a picture of it that I took eariler this year at a car show; http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/Zuma1211/bobbyandrosecamaro06.jpg Hank Williams Jr. Jul 19th, 06, 09:22 PM Oh really. cool. those are some wild fender flares. Is this camaro built to run? or be she mild? ScottB Jul 20th, 06, 09:15 AM He did an excellant burnout leaving a police car after getting pulled over. If I remember right there was a scene at the former Orange County race track OCIR. mkpatrick Jul 20th, 06, 09:16 AM Here's how old I am..... I went to the movies to see that picture. ScottB Jul 20th, 06, 10:44 AM Here's how old I am..... I went to the movies to see that picture. Me too, that's why I'm questioning my memory. 3forme Jul 20th, 06, 01:48 PM I saw it too when I was 8. I own the DVD and it's worth buying. Paul Lematt smokes a Mustang at the beginning. If you watch the movie at one point he's fiddlin under the hood when a bike cop walks up and asks if its a 302(didn't catch that as a kid) so I now wonder if its in fact a Z. It was primered black at the end of the movie. Buy it just for the Elton John soundtrack LOL! Peter Constantine Jul 20th, 06, 07:22 PM That car is georgeous! I vaguely remember that movie,I saw it at the movies, too.I had a 68 with the same flares on the rear back in 72-75,but I did a hack job putting them on.I still had to run air shocks to get the rear high enough to clear the giant tires. The fenders were still stock under the flares,it was truly a teenage hack job! I love the way that car looks! DjD Jul 20th, 06, 07:49 PM Here's a trailer you might like... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073941/trailers-screenplay-E14267-10-2 HOGDADDY Jul 20th, 06, 09:16 PM Thats the movie that I could never remember name of saw it years ago. mkpatrick Jul 20th, 06, 09:27 PM Are flares like that fibre glass? Do you just cut away the sheet metal and install the flares? Al Jul 20th, 06, 09:33 PM I was hoping this thread was going to drop off the page before I felt compelled to admit that after seeing the movie (when it first came out) that I bought a set of those fender flares. they are still on the Camaro (that I sold) the last time I seen it. yes, they were fiberglass. Hank Williams Jr. Jul 20th, 06, 11:17 PM Okay Im going see it. I am not really sure what the plot is though? can someone paint the broad strokes? bigblockkid Jul 20th, 06, 11:59 PM Zuma - Do you have a side view picture of the camaro, just love those slot mags!. zuma Jul 21st, 06, 08:26 AM No, Sorry I don't but, Dennis or Van might, I think they might of taken a few of the car.... Anyway if I remember correctly, the story is about a young couple who fall in love. Everything is perfect until the enter a "stop and rob", convience store, then it gets interesting...Worth a rental, or a $15 dollar on sale, DVD....Mike DjD Jul 21st, 06, 10:21 AM Here's the one I have online right now... I'll check later to see what else I have on the home PC... http://www.camaros.net/pnwcc/DjD/sfrc/Aloha.JPG Back in the day Project Design in Goleta (Chip Foose's dad Sam's old shop) use to pull wheel wells like that on lots of vettes, camaros and others too... joesw2 Aug 15th, 06, 10:32 PM AS far as i know its a REAL 68 Z28, it was in San Diego with a hillborn inj unit?? years ago> car gives me a woody !! i did meet Paul Le Mat at a car show but "never" asked if his character was killed in the movie? A must See Guys!!!!!!!!! hara875 Nov 25th, 06, 09:22 PM That is the actual car. It is actually a 67 Z with 68 doors and front clip. the motor was built by Traco and many of the body mods and exhaust were done by smokie conea. It was reportedly built for the Garner racing team and then bought by cine-artist film company for use in Aloha bobby and rose. There is some info at: www.alohabobbyandrose.com (http://www.alohabobbyandrose.com) garfield Nov 26th, 06, 04:37 AM This year the car was re-united with actor LeMat and is going to be touring with the actor. I wonder is LeMatt going to make an attempt to buy it from the owner hara875 Nov 26th, 06, 11:13 AM Not sure about that, But the Yellow graffiti coupe and the aloha camaro are owned by the same person, so I am sure the camaro will be spending a lot of time with LeMat. KWIK 69 Nov 27th, 06, 07:43 AM I heard a while back Paul had been trying to buy the car for years since the movie, and finally HAD purchased it a couple years ago. As far as speed goes, I remember seeing somewhere it ran in the high 10's and it was a 67z with 68 doors and nose. It has RS taillights but no backup lights and a custom rear spoiler. Roll cage, side pipes, 2nd gen bucket seats, 4 speed, toggle switches with lights just behind the shifter (which were quickly added to my brother's Camaro shortly after seeing the movie in the 70's, lol) I notice in the above picture, they put the wipers back on. The car didn't wear windshield wipers in the movie. The movie is directly responsible for many young gearheads falling in love with the Camaro. Although the plot of the movie is slow by today's standards, there is a lot of windshield time to make up for it. Bobby is having some fun on thier first date and the joke goes bad and someone gets hurt, so they run from the law the rest of the movie. It's a must have for your collection. I can't think of another movie that has more airtime for a 1st gen in it. I give it a 8 out of 10 just for the donut he does in the intersection in front of the 2 biker cops. :) foreverlookin Nov 28th, 06, 03:49 AM Loved the movie dylanjans Nov 28th, 06, 12:32 PM I am a fan of the movie. The 2nd 68 I have in my garage has a set of "disco" fiberglass flares pulling away from the quarter panels. Honestly, the worst body work I have ever seen. I think I can see screws through some of the putty. I can't wait to cut those quarters off. |
