View Full Version : Fuel tank anti squeak pad adhesive Obxhokie Jul 21st, 06, 02:43 PM What kind of adhesive/glue is used to hold the anti squeak pads and insulator pad to the gas tank? Thanks for the help Victor click Jul 21st, 06, 02:44 PM I didnt use any. The straps tighten down very well and they have not moved in 3 years. Maybe others do use glue but I dont see where its necessary. :) Obxhokie Jul 21st, 06, 02:51 PM Wow Click that was fast!:) I was thinking of doing that, but It looked like the old pads were glued. Or maybe it was just 39 years of crud making me think it was glue. anyway I might try to do it w/o any adhesive. You are right that once the tank is itghtned, I dont see how they would move. Thanks for the help. Victor madmax87 Jul 21st, 06, 03:12 PM I think you may need some adhesive for the rubber block to stay in place while mounting the tank. The straps you may get away with. I just used some 3M carpet adhesive. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g136/Caman355/gastank.jpg RamAirDave Jul 21st, 06, 06:20 PM I usually use 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive. Basically just to hold it in place. They wont move around much (if any) once the tank is installed. dave Obxhokie Jul 25th, 06, 02:33 PM Thanks for the reply's, went with a little weatherstrip adhesive cause I had it handy. It worked great. I must say I was impressed with the quality of the canadian made repro I purchased, but I do plan on having the original cleaned and will store it. Thanks again for the help Victor madmax87 Jul 25th, 06, 07:06 PM I too was very impressed with the repro quality of apperance and just about had me sold till it started to leak around the seams. I'm not sure if it was a Canadian made one or not. The one in the picture above was a brand new GM I bought from Classic. It came with the repair work already around the spout. I call and told them I didn't want a repaired one but they said they were all like that. At least it didn't leak and you can't see the repair. scblucam Jul 25th, 06, 08:52 PM I did not use adhesive either. 15 years and no problem. |
