I am not sure if this is the magazine article you are refering to, but the Feb 18 issue of Muscle Car Review had a feature on the rarest Camaro on the planet, which is the Pete Estes 1968 Z28 Camaro convertable.

Perhaps you can get a back issue on line if you go to the website. Either that or someone might send you one if they don't want their copy. Also might be for sale on ebay?

thanks guys,

it just seems that this car is so hidden doesnt it? how many owners did it have? 3 or 4? and they all seems to keep this car out of the eye of the public....

who owns it now? isnt it a toy company? rock n roll toy company or something like that?

A million and a quarter, or thereabouts. Its been up for sale recently and got up to 1.1 million and didn't clear the reserve the owner had on it at the time.

Thanks Mark. Now that I have an estimated value, all I have to do is get my numbers drawn in the Lottery tonight. Shouldn't be a problem, right? Mike.

It's funny the way things go in the world of collecting. I remember when it was for sale a few years ago for about 250K. Some of the Camaro collectors passed on it because it is a 1968 and SB car. At that time the hot Camaro collector cars were 1969 BB cars. So now you have a SB 68 Camaro and it has to be one of the highest price Camaros around.

My new thing learned for the day.Ive seen many pictures over the years of this car, the first on being in Popular Mechanics many years ago.Until today I would have sworn the car was black.I can see in these pics its green.

Which green is it?Im a 69 guy and it looks like fathom green, but 68 had a british racing green didnt they?

In the aution ad they say it's the most valuable Camaro and it has to be up there but I think an actual Penske Trans-Am race car may sell for more if one ever went to aution.

I've got an old GM TechCenter article about the car, circa 1991. Send me an e-mail (mines listed in my profile), and I'll send you a copy of it (pdf). If anyone else wants the article as well, let me know.

Your right edd. Why would anyone want to own the rarest muscle car in the world? I didn't win the Lottery last night, so I guess I'll have to wait til next week. Mike

sorry to bring back such on old thread but has any documentation surfaced for this car? they say and say its the real deal but anybody can "say" they have something they don't. I see it all the time:yes: Also do you think this is one of the rarest f-bodies ever made?

The one real car in question is currently well enough known and it's history documented right up to the cars documentation being stolen or dissapearing that if you listen to the people in the know you can believe it is what they say it is. The car is a 1 off so that makes it about as rare of a Camaro as you will find unless a prototype has gotten into public hands...

In my opinion they are all 1 of 1, as no 2 should have the same vin number.

The car is well enough known, documentation stood as tall as the car did, no question to the lineage of this car, albiet lost about 30-40% of its value when the documentation was stolen

After assembly the car was tweeked by Vinnce Piggins and his boys at Chevy Engineering Product Promotion Group then given to the then general manager of Chevrolet Motor Division Elliott M. “Pete” Estes.
Pete went on to be president and chief operating officer of GM 1974

They probably went over the whole car to get the fit and finish just right and to fine tune it. This history ads a lot to the cars value. Too bad about the documentation but still one of the top 10 on any great Camaro list.

It has been said that the 1968 convertible Z was used to get Pete to step up the Z/28 program for 1969. Then Pete lit the Camaro bomb and sold a lot of 1969 Zs
