View Full Version : Extra Part After Resto-Identification Please
tim68rsss Jul 22nd, 06, 07:07 PM Can someone identify this piece? Had it left over after resto. Couldn't find it anywhere in the Assembly Manual (68 RSSS BB Auto with AC). It is a metal bracket with the splash material that goes on the inner fenders. Thanks!

loneman Jul 22nd, 06, 08:06 PM Yes I just removed my fenders. It bolts on the support down by the sub frame mount,my car only had one on the left side only. The bolts were a little longer and that was held on with nuts.
JimM Jul 22nd, 06, 08:55 PM hmmm, not sure about that. The one on the left side looks like this.
It could be from the passenger side, but my car had nothing on that side.
BelAirBob Jul 22nd, 06, 10:26 PM Its a splash shield for your inner fenders. Think there should be one on each side. 99% of the time, they are missing, which is why they seem strange to us :)
rogerh Jul 22nd, 06, 10:53 PM That looks like a splach guard for the left side. That splach guard was a recall for the 67s to keep ice from building up on the shift and/or throttle linkage. Is your car a column shift car?
I don't think there was one on the right side.
Roger
KevinW Jul 23rd, 06, 06:10 AM I kinda agree with everyone. Drivers side splash shield for the linkages. 69 shows a similar one called a "auto trans - throttle valve controll splash shield".
Yours looks like it mounts to the 2 holes in the firewall bracket.
JimM Jul 23rd, 06, 06:36 AM The pic I posted was sent to me by Jonesy, I'm not sure what car it's from exactly, but it is identical in appearance to the shield I took off my floor shift V8 68, which I then (after reconditioning the peice per Jonesy's photo) forgot to put back on!
Jonesy Jul 23rd, 06, 10:16 AM Thats the driver side flap on a 69 coupe. There is also another one on the passenger side. I dont think they have anything to do with shift or throttle linkages as neither of those is down that far or even in the area these are placed. The inner fenders mate up with these. It keeps crap off the e-brake cable. I would say the work as dust/water sheilds just as the inner fender rubber skirts do on top of the a-arms.
Radcannon Jul 23rd, 06, 10:26 AM yea u see those holes. THey mount where the arm on the upper control arm goes tot he subframe.
tim68rsss Jul 23rd, 06, 07:13 PM Thanks Guys! My Car is a 68 RSSS BB Auto on the console. I'll see if I can find how it bolts up now that I know the area it goes.
mr396 Jul 24th, 06, 03:48 PM I just checked my 68 BB M40 floor shift a/c camaro and I think I found it. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a180/mr396/th_MVC-031F.jpg (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a180/mr396/MVC-031F.jpg)

RamAirDave Jul 24th, 06, 06:16 PM I believe the AIM shows one to be on the pass side. Ive found it on the drivers side on several cars, but havent found one the pass side yet.
