Who makes the best black houndstooth seat covers? I'm ready to order covers (and foam) to upgrade my standard seats. I've read some bad experiences with PUI, but most vendors carry that brand. Who makes the best covers? Where can I get them?

I have a set of new Al Knoch's that I bought a long time ago before they stopped making them. 69 buckets with fold down seat. I'm not sure if they are better than PUI (I havent seen PUI houndstooth), but they look good to me. I bought them before I found out converts didnt get houndstooth.

What color houndstooth do you want? I want yellow/black so I contacted SMS Auto Fabrics (google the name for the website). The are selling me the material and I'm have a local guy do the upholstery work. They will send you samples of everything too which is nice. I am keeping the standard back seat but putting 4th gen buckets in the front; therefore the custom order. It's about $260 for the houndstooth material and the yellow vinyl plus to have them covered....but at least I'll have someone local to yell at if it looks bad.
Of course if you're just getting the standard black or orange houndstooth you can order from the catalogs....I'm not sure if people like year one and classic industries carry the same brand. I know if you order via the internet on YearOne.com you'll get 10% off if you enter the promo code "THANKS10".
Or you can wait till classic offers their 20% off...prob in September.
Either way, they both have a return policy.
My 2 cents-

Ive had real good luck with PUI stuff before but lately it sucks. My door panels.....well lets just say they must fit many other makes and models too because they dont fit a '69 camaro. And my new white houndstooth.....well its very loose looking.like the covers are too big. Looks like $hit really. All the hog rings in the land aint tighning this $hit up !!!!
So good luck and let me know how you make out.

I wanted to follow up with my recent experience with PUI Houndtooth covers for my '69. Against the recomendation of my upholstery guy, I ordered the PUI covers. They were what most vendors carried. The seams were so crooked that half of the set was unusable. I packed them up and sent them back for refund.
I then ordered a set of seat covers from C.A.R.S. and my upholstery guy checked them out last night. They are a lot nicer than the set from PUI. The seams were straight. The cloth insert had a much smoother texture than the PUI, probably closer to a stock feel. The black buttons were put on as delivered. And the vinyl was a heavier grade than the PUI. The covers were a little more $$$ and longer delivery, but definitely worth it.

Hey Gary. A stupid question, what is "C.A.R.S."?
Thanks.

Yes, the black houndstooth is what I bought. They have it advertised kind of strange on their website, they are called "1969 Chevy Camaro - Front Seat Cover With Cloth Inserts" I had to call them to verify it was actually the houndstooth. I was very pleased with the quality compared to PUI.
