View Full Version : Grrrr...Have two questions...
mbmmca Jul 23rd, 06, 07:45 PM First....I need the measurement of the area directly behind the door striker, where the 1/4 window goes. We are getting over an inch. (Is that understandable?)
Second...does anyone in my area have a driver side door I can borrow for a few hours? Mine seems to be twisted. We can get the bottom lined up to the rocker but the top is out, in front corner only, by almost an inch. If we line that up, everything else comes out. (including my hair!!!) I know this is a tough one, especially since we are all so protective of our cars. I promise not to do anything to it, other than hang it on my car for about 5 minutes. I'll let you hang it, and even stand right there with me. I am just trying to verify if my door actually has a problem. If you guys have another way to check it, I'll give that a shot first.
We have had a rough time trying to get things lined up. The new 1/4 is still not welded on. I refuse to do it till everything is right. Still having 1/4 panel trouble, but not the fault of the panel. That will be another post...
Thanks for reading this book....any help as usual, much appreciated...

jr68 Jul 23rd, 06, 08:10 PM What year Camaro , and I guess I don't really know where you are referring to when you say you are getting one inch. ( more info ) I'll go measure.
DanW Jul 23rd, 06, 10:33 PM jr68, she has a 68 in her album.

Do you mean the distance between the rear of the striker bolt to the edge of the glass in the rolled down position? Do you think there is something wrong about its current alignment?
mbmmca Jul 24th, 06, 04:09 AM 67 in the album with wrong parts...
The area we are looking at is directly behind the door jam and striker. There is a space between the new 1/4 panel and the inner, where the 1/4 window rolls down into. We are getting a different measurment for each side of the car on that width.
I just double checked the album...there is a pic of the area in question. It is in the second horizontal row, third picture. It is dated 7/14/06 I believe.
Oh yeah...I don't want anyone to take a door off their car. I am only asking to borrow if it is already off or an extra.
TDW Jul 24th, 06, 04:18 AM I live about 30 mins from Fenton. You can come over here and look at mine and take some measurements if that will help. I don't want to take a door off though. PM me if you want a phone number.
tired68 Jul 25th, 06, 09:12 PM I don't know if this is the measurement you need or not. If it is, I get 1.270" on both sides.

If you need it measured any other spots, just let me know.
If you can't get the door to align front and back, perhaps the quarter is out of alighment and causing you to try to correct it with door adjustments. I'm wondering if your quarter is tipped in or out at the quarter glass and throwing all your other measurements and features off.
Post a photo of how you want it measured and I'll do my best to help out.
mbmmca Jul 26th, 06, 04:10 AM Perfect! That was exactly what I needed. Now to figure out why the variation from side to side. The 1/4s are not hard welded yet. I don't want to do that without a new tail panel. The one I have is warped so that may have something to do with it. We have struggled a bit with installing the 1/4s but I expected it. Wheel wells not lining up inside the 1/4s has been the biggest issue.
Thanks for the measurements. Much appreciated.

tired68 Jul 26th, 06, 06:11 AM Look at the bends in the quarter beween the outside edge and the flange that it mounts by. Any of those bends could be in the right place but have "sprung back" or could be over-bent because of spring back allowance in the manufacturing process. Hopefully the piece is okay except for tweaking at these bends. If the jamb section is really the wrong depth, you may need to cut a slice in it and weld it in the correct place. You can effectively lengthen or shorten it that way.
It would be best if you have the doors and front fenders in place and the alignment perfect before you commit to welding your new quarters in. I don't think you'll be happy with resulting gaps or fitment if you don't.
I was fitting a rear window to trunk panel and it looked fine until I put the trunk deck lid on. I had hours of tweaking to do after that. These panels are all related to the ajacent ones.

i just brought this up a couple months ago...
your going to need "2" measurments on both sides......one near the jamm, and the other near the corner by the sail....one end is wider...on factory unreplaced 1/4 panels....
mbmmca Jul 26th, 06, 12:47 PM What are the correct measurments supposed to be? These things are being hard welded on saturday...
tired68 Jul 26th, 06, 04:04 PM If you need anything else measured, tell me where and how you want it measured. My quarters are original and straight, but they are Firebird, not Camaro.
mbmmca Jul 26th, 06, 07:54 PM Everything is close. My husband cut the old 1/4 off at the lead line on the sail instead of below it. Now we are trying to slide the new panel between the roof panel and the pilar. Kind of a tough trick but working fairly well. We have a spot on the wheel well that is hanging up. Everthing lines up with the rocker but the front of the door also looks a little tweeked. I'll post pics this weekend if I can.
Thanks for the help. Having pics makes a big difference.
