I am replacing the engine in my 69 camaro and as long as it is out I will be deleting the factory a/c and smooth ing the fire wall.I am thinking of deleting the heater too. My question is can I weld on the fire wall with the interior still in the car or is it to big of a fire hazard it will only be spot welds on the exterior. I can't deside what to do with the heater if I need it or not I only drive it in the summer.Defrosters might be nice in the fall. I want to go with a vintage air but not for a couple years.

Get one of those welding blankets from Harbor Freight or local welding supply should have them.

you need to remove the carpet and any padding in the vincinity of where sparks could go!

There is insulation on the firewall that you def want to move and while you are under the dash you might want to take a look around and see what other fire hazards are there
Also make sure that you have a fire extinguisher close just in case!

And also a pack of hot dogs and marshmallows. Definatly do not try that with the interior in. One of the body techs where I work fried a car pretty bad a while back, and he wasn't even welding on the firewall. Burnt up the dash, wire harness, carpet and windshield.
