I think the mirrors you are refering to are the Bullet shaped Sport mirrors that were available from GM after 1970, They are Not Original to the Car. You should have 2 Chrome Rectangular mirrors. They should be Part #'s

3914753 Left Hand

3914754 Right Hand

And Even on a Z/28 I think the Right Hand Mirror was an Option.

Hey RSMITH1969 are those part numbers the same for a 68? Are they still available from Chevrolet? Curious as my mirrors are so loose that they move everytime you shut the doors. Is there anyway to tighten them up or do you have to replace them? I haven't looked at them, but your post got me thinking.

I'm sure the resto houses have the mirrors, but it would be nice if you could get them locally for less.

Thanks!

Reply to RSmith, I'm curious as to which dealer you're referring to. Lustine maybe, but I can't imagine any one else. I live in Tracy's Landing and have used the dealer ( Lowe , although they have changed names numerous times ) and found it difficult to get parts for my 97 suburban there let alone my Camaros??

That's good to hear about GM mirrors still being available. My 68s are repros and I've tried about eveything short of super glue to get them to stay adjusted.

So much for locally and less! I just called the local chevy dealer with those part numbers and they want $167.20 for 3914753 and $84.92 fo 3914754. I didn't even mention what they were for, just gave him the part numbers and asked about pricing and availability. Rick's has the original GM mirrors for $66 each.

Oh well... it was worth a shot. I think I'll go buy a 99 cent tube of super glue.

don't waste your money on super glue-tried it-didn't work-tried heavy duty gel super glue also-it didn't work. Bought new one-it work http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif Tom.

Hey guys, I had the same problem with my mirror. We took the mirror off the car and punched a couple little divots in the back of the mirror on the metal around the pivot ball. Tightened up the mirror pretty darn good. Just use a little poker or punch and a good hammer.
Hope this helps,
Kyle

I agree with Camaro Kyle if you can't justify the replacement mirrors; send a screw or something into the area around the pivot ball to tighten it up.

I have a 67 with the same problem, too much movement. So how do you get the mirror off the bracket to hit it with a punch?

Yep every repro mirror I've seen has that floppy problem, and every GM mirror I've seen has been ok. Wish those repros guys would figure it out someday!!

Mine is original GM, it's just old 35 yrs. to be exact http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif.. So what's behind the mirror a screw? Or is that where I have to hit it with a punch?
