View Full Version : How much did you use?
DjD Jul 26th, 06, 08:24 PM Sound deadener material... How many sq ft did you use to cover your 1st gen floors? How far up the firewall did you go? How far under the rear seat?
I'm replacing the carpet in an assembled interior so under the carpet and rear seat is the primary target. Did you over lap or butt seam the sections. I was thinking some foil tape over butt seams would be smoother than overlaping...
I have 30 sq ft of 70mil thick Cool It Thermo Tec's Suppressor material and have 2 cars to do. I'm thinking about taking it back as it was about $100 and getting a product called Power Mat whick looks to be almost the same material and construction but is 50 mil thick. I can get 50sq ft for $80 shipped... Is the extra 20 mil worth the added cost?
TIA,
rmack69 Jul 27th, 06, 10:26 AM here is a link regarding sound deadner that I found o be very informative.

69RS406 droptop Jul 27th, 06, 11:30 AM I used 72 sq. feet of Dynamat in my vert. I started up on the firewall to where the carpet starts all the way back under the seat and covered the trunk divider (I overlapped the joints). I had enough left over to cover both doors as well. Even though it is a convertible you still can notice a big difference in sound and definitely keeps it cooler inside as well.
click Jul 27th, 06, 11:55 AM I bought 100' and used about 75 as well. Doubled up over muffler area and along the tunnel and foot well too. :)
DjD Jul 27th, 06, 12:42 PM Thanks for the input guys and the link Rick... It looks like I'm just going to be getting started with the 30 sq ft I have.
With the shiny foil did you guys use an adheasive when you installed the carpet?
click Jul 27th, 06, 01:50 PM nope, seats bolt it down prett good for me :)
69RS406 droptop Jul 27th, 06, 09:15 PM Yeah, no adhesive necessary. If you use the foil backed material watch your finger tips. That stuff is like razor blades, I tore my fingers up while laying it down.
DjD Jul 29th, 06, 06:09 PM Thanks for the replies, I won't worry about the carpet and I'll be careful how I handle the alum... I wanted to share that I found that Power Mat also comes in 80 mil thickness (Eclipse) and they send you a sample of dynomat to compare to their product. The 80 mil stuff is available for $100 + shipping for 100 sq ft. I'm thinking I will give it a try and will report back.
ORENCH Jul 29th, 06, 07:00 PM 80 mil = ±5/64", just a 1/64" more than 1/16" thickness? Just that and no jute padding under the carpet? I"m planning on replacing my Camaro's carpet, for a more original looking one, and that seems like a good improvement.
DjD Jul 30th, 06, 08:51 AM The jute is part part of the carpet, at least on the kit I have. I don't know how thick the factory type under layer is but it should all fit fine from what i've researched with 80 mil.
Ghostbuster Jul 30th, 06, 04:55 PM nice pics droptop..
I meaured 72' on the firewall, floor and trunk area.
The doors and inner qtrs brought me up to 105'
I ordered 120' to include under the hood and deck lid.
I've seen that showdown RMack69 posted, and was very imnpressed by the Damplifier Pro™ system.
