My body man will soon be cutting the holes in my 67 NOS tail panel for RS backup lights. I have a template and measurements but think that it might be a good idea to test fit an actual housing before laying paint down on the car. Does this sound like a good idea? I have not yet bought any lights because they are expensive and I have not yet reached that point in my restoration where I want to lay down big money for NOS housings. If anyone happens to have a junk pair they want to get rid of (or even let me borrow) please let me know.

It might be a mistake to not test fit the backup lights before you paint the car. Do yourself a favor and pop for the parts- you will need them eventually anyway!:)

Was your car an orrigial RS or are you makeing a cloan??? I have a 67 also and i would like to make an RS/SS cloan. Is it that simple as cuting the square holes out on the bottom?

It's not quite that simple. Two panels need to be cut.

The hard part for me was cutting the rectangle level, see the picutr below, it is a factory cut out,one on the outside panel and one on the inside panel, plus the mounting holes for the light must be drilled, and dont forget to drill a hole in the trunk to run the reverse wire thru.

Mine is an SS but I'm adding the RS options to add some excitement to the car.

late68's housings from the car in the picture above were too far gone to do me any good. If anyone else has a junk pair they's be willing to part with please let me know.
