I just bought my first car today(im 17) a 1984 Chevy Camaro. It doesnt seem to have any engine trouble as i drove it on the freeway for 20 miles but it does seem to have a bunch of minor things it needs fixed and i was just wondering what the best way to approach it would be. I need a car that will last me a few years so im trying to put money into it. First, the odometer/speedometer is not working. The electronic screen just displays some lines but nothing i can make out. Is this a serious problem? But the one thing i wanted to do was paint the car. The paint job is really old and if i painted it, i think it would be sweet. I live in LA so if anyone knows where i can get a cheap paint job please let me know. But i was curious about how much time and money it would cost to paint the car bymyself. Its summer now so i have ALOT of time to spend on the car and hopefully it could be in nice condition before summers out. Id appreciate any advice.

Welcome to the club!! congratulations on your car.. I had an 84z28 before myself.

1st of all..

1> get a manual.. a haynes or a chiltons. the 12$ investment will answer 80% of your questions..

2> Make your plan of attack and goals. go over the car with a fine tooth comb and note all of the problems. there are probably some that you may have not even seen yet.. trust me . youll find them..

Work on those things in this order.
a. Safety . brakes, steering, tires.
b. road worthyness
c. emmissions - your in cali so this should be interesting for you.
d. Cosmetics, like paint..

Good luck with your car..
