Wondering if any of you out there have looked at/installed Wayne Due's First Gen Independant Rear Suspension system. It uses Corvette components. Looking to find out what kind of performance issues it brings up, such as the ability to put power to the ground, etc. etc. I'd love the handling upgrade (if it's substantial), but don't want to sacrifice the ability to put down all the power the engine can generate. Any thoughts out there?

I don't know anything about IRS on a first gen but I saw this 69 with a corvette c4 rear and thought it was interesting.

Yep, that's pretty much it. Wayne Due offers weld-in kits to put C4 IRS onto first gen Camaros. Was just trying to find out if anyone around here had done it or simply get some insight from you guys as to the merits of it.

Thanks.

We put a C4 rear under Project Prodigy, but it was not a Wayne Due instalation kit since it is a full chassis. The results are the probably close to the same, however we benefit from some added rigidity in the full chassis over a stock unibody, which probably helps let the suspension work.

I can tell you with QA1 double adjustable coil overs she rides fantastic, and handles like a slot car, but again, it may not be a apples to apples comparision. We also benifit from a very low COG because of the channeled body.

We do have some wheel hop issues, but were also pumping 540 inches and 750+ hp.

Here is a link to a pic and other C4 conversation

I wish I had the tools/ability to build a full frame for my '68 vert. That would open a lot of possibilities. I love Frankenstein projects. The biggest problem being that I'm better at designing them than building them! Project Prodigy looks awesome. I may have a coupla questions for you in a bit. Are PMs ok?

PC:

Is the width going to be more narrow under a Camaro body, like 67-69s, and if so, what issues do you see?
Once in a while I read or hear about a neccessity to certain width needs for Corvette, or any IRS rears...so that they behave correctly, what do you know regarding this application?
Im curous, as I have a different vehicle I was thinking about doing something like this to...
Your thoughts, Thanx!

A 84 - 87 rear will go in stock width, they are the same as a stock rear. Some say you cannnot narrow them, but we di a few trick with adjustable links and eliminated some of the isses. There is a gathering called Tour in the Hills put on by Pro-touring.com and Musclerides.com. It includes a autocross shootout September 15.16 and 17 in Pigeon Forge, Tn. There will be atleast 10 well known high profile car (moslty Camros) there, along with a few dozen other cars. We are no autocross drivers, but I may find a driver. We will see how good Project Prodigy performs. I will let ya know how we make out.

PC,

Do you guys do Custom (one-off) Chassis/suspension systems? That is, if I send you a basic set of design drawings/needs/requests, does your company work with a client to create a custom setup, or do you guys just build the cars?

We are not a "chassis shop", but we do build chassis. We tend to over build stuff, but since we are not chassis scientist or engineers, over building is safe, LOL!
