Just bought a 69 fully restored SS/RS that has an 8 track tape player on the console. (didn't know they did that). It is integrated in the standard Delco radio. The player is a neat item (if it's the real thing), but sounds terrible. Does anyone have an idea how to upgrade this thing, but leaving the look of the tape player and radio in tact? It already has speakers in the kick panels and in the back window plate. thanks.

Don't see many with the 8 track player. The 69's did have them on the console. I believe you are asking if you can use another radio for tunes while leaving the orginal radio and player in place. Don't see why not Just need to find a place to put the other radio.

Personally I'd leave it alone. Even if you hide a different radio in the glovebox, for example, then you are still left with original speakers that will not sound much better with a new radio hooked to them. Leave your original system intact and functioning correctly. It will just add value to the car, especially with the 8-track option which is quite rare. My 69 has a factory AM radio with single dash speaker. Sounds like crap but is actually kind of fun to experience the way it was in 69. This is just my opinion of course.
