I need to know if any one has a template and placement measurements for RS backup light installation. Any suggestions on what type of tool to use when cutting, would also be greatly appreciated!

If you can't get these measurements from anybody,I'd be glad to go check my RS.It's being stored at a neibor's garage though.I could have them by Sun. P.M.?Don't know how you would cut them,never done one on sheetmetal that large.

My RS is a 67 by the way,I don't know offhand if the lights,or thier placement is different from year to year?I come up with 34 1/4" between the inside edges of the chrome trim that surrounds the light.Measureing from the bottom edge of the panel up to the bottom edge of the chrome trim is 3 3/8".I hope this helps,need any more measurements,just ask.I would think that unless this is a concors type resto these should work,the most important thing is that they are level,and centered on the panel.

Both the 67 and 68 use the same housing. I just don't know if cut out needs to be rectnagle or is an odd shape. Thanks for your help.

I'd have to take the light out to answer that one,there appears to be a foam type gasket under the chrome trim piece,so it's hard to see the actual hole.If you give me a day or so I could pull one apart I guess.But I don't know how accurate I can describe it on a P.C.,but will give it a shot if no one gets back to you first. http://www.camaros.net/forum/wink.gif

The up down measurement is more critical as the left to right measurement is easy because they are centered under the tailight.

the hole for the marker light is a rectangle slightly smaller than the chrome bezel and the gasket can be had from any restoration supplier in a "paint gasket" kit form for less than $10. this will also give you all of the other gaskets from tail lights to hood rubber. dont have the placement measurements though. good luck!

sorry for the 2nd post. once you have the measurements you need, talk to someone with a plasma cutter for the work and make sure they are experienced... Have fun!

I pulled a light out today,omly problem is that I thought that by taking the lens screws out I could get the whole assembly out,no such luck.The chrome trim/light housing is held in place from the backside with nuts.They appear to be a pain to get at ,as they are up against the back of the gastank.If youre in no hurry to get these measurements, I can still get them, but it might take awhile. That would be assuming I could get the nuts off without dropping the gas tank. Sorry.

Your right Northern Friend, and thats what you are. I very much appreciated the info. I even printed and saved it, but my files are in piles. Didn't even think of doing the search. Sorry sometimes my mind wanders. I don't have a plasma so I had to use a cut off wheel and a hand file to makes the edges nice. Originally the holes were probably stamped out but they came out perfect anyway even though the look may be wrong with the lights out. I was lucky enough to do this on a new panel not installed on the car yet so it was a little easier also. Sorry for any inconveinence with my brain lapse. Is the car a RS, std or auto. I am asking to see if your all set with the wiring. Mine is a 4speed and Hurst makes a nice back up switch for their shifters. Works perfect

just a note to remind you, if you use a cutter allow for the width of the cut in your tracing. it is better to cut inside of your lines and finish with a dremel, hand grinder etc etc etc.

I tried cutting some holes on an old hood. Plasma works great but if you are worried about your paint don't use plasma. I also tried a cutting wheel if you go slow paint is ok but it will take forever. Best thing I found is to drill a 3/8”hole at each corner then I used a pneumatic saw. Paint is ok and the cuts are quick. Cleaned it up with a file looks perfect. Thanks to every one, this is a great site.
