well..I took a cut-off disc to the bent up dash remnants/tubing/aluminum cr@p and now it is flush with the upper edge of the firewall/cowl seam! Yippee (learned not to grind near unprotected glass) *minor pitting in small spot***I'm stupid! (fixed myself and finished job)
My dash metal is back from the powdercoating shop and I am ready to pull out the windshield and start the process to make it look stock again.
Here is the problem. The dash metal that is freshly painted and nearly complete is missing the leading edge that is spot welded to the upper firewall/cowl seam.
From the top of the dash that is flat and level, there is a 45 deg break then another close to 45 deg break and this is where the spot welds are. On my dash metal, I only have the first 45 degree break (the one that you can see behind the glass at the bottom edge) So I am going to have to remove the old spot welded strip that is left, weld them back together and then put it back where it came from. Understand that there was no other way due to the heinous condition the stock metal was left in (bent/putty/warped speaker grill)
When I take out the glass, what will I find? A few little spot welds that are easy to remove? A folded and thoroughly welded seam impossible even for NASA scientists to separate? A den of small furry creatures working on there new nest? If you have separated this panel before I would love to hear your experience!
thanks
