I want to purchase a welder this week. Summit Racing lists a Lincoln Mig Pak 15, 155 AMP, 230 volt welder for $679.00. The kit includes a helmet, video, 10 foot cable, 100L gun, contact tips, .025" wireL-56 wire.

I want to be able to weld subframe connectors and other metal up to about 3/8". Is this a good product for the price?
Thanks

I wnet with the Lincoln 135 package for $400 from Lowes. It comes with everything including face shield. Great MIG for sheet metal repair/ subframe welding IMO. Just goout and buy more of a quality good 'Auto darkening' face shield because the one that comes with it stinks.

I have basically the same welder, a Lincoln SP 230. Just 10 years older. Works great for sheetmetal or welding fairly thick metal, 3/16"-1/4" in 1 pass, 3/8" with a couple passes. Use .023 wire for sheet metal and .030 for heavier welding. Don`t bother with the flux core wire. It just makes a big mess without any better penetration. Brent

Just to let you know, I paid a lot less for my Hobart 175 Handler 230v Mig. Check on the internet. I found a lot of welding compaines that sell brand name products and give you free shipping. But do yourself a favior, if you can, buy yourself a 230v Mig, whatever brand it is. If you need to use it for frame work, you have the voltage for good penetration.
Just my opinion

i have the lincoln pak 100 from home depot. its non-sheilded. for car work its great and only cost $329? you can add gas to it too if you like. on a car you will not weld anything over 1/4". no need to spend 600+.

I don't know where your from but in Canada they ave a store called Canadian Tire that just had the unit in question on sale for $499.00 including gas regulator. So far I have welded my axles tubes and some patch panels, it works great!

I just purchased a Millermatic 175, with a cart, for $625.00. It was the best price I was able to find. I purchased it from www.ramweldingsupply.com (http://www.ramweldingsupply.com)

Thanks for the replies.

Rick,

I was leaning toward the Lincoln unit at first. I talked to our journeyman welder at work -he said Miller was the only way to go on mig. I ended up with the Millermatic 175/220v w/ cart for $635. It's a very nice machine.

good luck.
