View Full Version : Auto Transmission Leak

Last week I had a moderate transmission fluid leak progress to a major leak. I always thought that I had a TH350 trans although I never actually checked it out (I don't know much about automatic trannys or the difference between them).

I researched the archives on TH350 leaks and found a good thread with some problem areas to check out. http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58625&highlight=th350+leak

After reading the thread I checked out my leak and I see at least one problem area at the speedometer cable entrance. The only problem is that my "bullet" looks nothing like the one pictured in that link. That one looks like the one I have seen in Muncie's. Mine is pictured here: http://web.tampabay.rr.com/68ss/Speedo.JPG

My questions are: What transmission do I have? Where is the best place to buy the seals that go around the speedo gear shaft? Am I better off buying some new parts? The large O-ring that goes around the outside diameter was not leaking at all, it was leaking around the cable entrance.

Thanks,
Brian

68 ss,

Here is a good link which will help you id your trans pan. Look at the photos and match it up to what is in your car. Good Luck!!

68ss, i too have the same leak problem as you, coming out of the speedo cable entrance. i took my "bullit" to a tranny shop and they put a new outside o-ring on it and put 2 seals in where the speedo gear rides for $5 bucks. also might want to check to see if your speedo gear is not worn out on the end where the seal rides. i have not tried it yet since the repair to see if the leak stopped.

Based on the pans in the link provided, I would say I have a THM350. Maybe I will take the parts to a trans shop and see what they think. Thanks!
