Hello All,

This is a dumb question but I have to ask. I had the rear drums off my 1969 Camaro I just purchased. The top of the backing plate on the passenger side appears to be at 1 o'clock. The drivers side appears at 11 o'clock. I have never seen this before. Usually the backing plate pin that everything boes to and the wheel cylinders are centered at dead noon.

This car has a 12 bolt with c-clip eliminators which are leaking at the front of the c-clip where the axle goes to. It has stock axles. At first I thought it was off center because of the c-clip eliminators.

The car looks like it had alot of amatuer work from the back of the doors to the rear bumper.

But can someone please tell me how can someone screw this up when putting in a rear end? How can it be corrected? Could this be the reason why the c-clip eliminators are leaking from the front where the axle slides in and not where they meet the backing plate? This 1PM & 11 PM position has caused alot of wear at the top of the front passenger rear shoe.

So the dumb question is how can I fix this and have the backing plates, wheel cyl. and the c-clip eliminators at the 12 Noon position?

All comments are welcome!!

Thanks!!

Sounds like someone has narrowed a housing out of some other car and got the ends welded on wrong. I think you would be much better off getting a new set of housing ends installed on this rear end. You need to have someone check out the rest of the rear end to see if anything else is screwed up.

I looked at the 10 bolt that is lying on my garage floor along with the other spare cars I received when I bought this car. The 10 bolt has the stock housing ends. The 12 bolt in the car now looks like they cut the housing ends off and put c-clip eliminators in their place.

Since this thing has a spool and this car is a street car it looks like it may be cheaper to get a bolt in 9" or another 12 bolt from Moser by the time parts & labor get added up.

Yes, sounds like it.

Can you see any welds or anything that looks different about the housing ends? Look at the end of the tubes where the flanges are and see if it looks like they have been cut and rewelded. I now that the ends have been cut for the c clip eliminators, but if you look on the other side of the brake flange you might see some evidence of the housing being narrowed. Let me know what you find. Send me an email.
