: wheel well trim
trezpan Apr 8th, 01, 09:45 AM hi guys Has anyone purchased repro wheel well trim? I have seen some repro wheel well trim where the mounting lip is shorter then gm trim. If anyone knows a repro brand that is like nos and is good quality please let me know. thanks

ORENCH Apr 8th, 01, 02:03 PM I installed "Corvex" brand for the wheel well openings and the rocker panel mouldings with satisfactory results. The only complaint is that I received the rear wheel opening moulding for a Rally Sport car, (shorter where it meets the rocker panel) and noticed it too late. Some holes doesn't match but I've heard that even some GM parts don't match perfectly.
camaro-69ss Apr 8th, 01, 02:27 PM I purchased the repro trim from Rick's, and it was a complete waste of money. The trim was just a horrible fit. It took snipping and bending to make it fit, and so it ended up looking like crap! I was very happy to buy the GM stuff after that!
trezpan Apr 8th, 01, 03:14 PM thanks for the reply i guess you get what you pay for, i better go with the gm thanks

rojo Apr 8th, 01, 03:28 PM Timely info for me also. I'm planning on ordering this week. A buddy of mine ordered the import version from Rick's for his 67 and was very pleased. Looks like about double the price for the good/better stuff. http://www.camaros.net/forum/confused.gif

Joe G Apr 8th, 01, 11:31 PM I wonder if the repo quality control is just spotty? Some folks get good fit and others get junk from the same source.
I've read here that someone had contacted Rick's and was told that the repo and GM trim are now made by the same folks?
hmmmm.....
Orench, where did you get your trim?
i just bought a repo BB radiator (US Radiator), GM Fan, clutch and GM shroud from Rick's. Had to bend the radiator mounts to get it to fit flush with the radiator support to have enough clearance to install the fan. Still very tight clearance. Shroud is GM and doesn't fit very well. Fan is GM and sure is shiny! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

ORENCH Apr 9th, 01, 05:43 AM Joe, I purshased the trim to a local supplier and the brand as I mentioned is "Corvex". They fitted nicely, don't know if the fact that my car has new fenders & quarter helped a little on the installation. I think there are different repro suppliers on those parts, a friend of mine ordered (to a US supplier)a set of wheel opennings for his 67 and if you look to much at them they get bended http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
MY396 Apr 9th, 01, 06:57 AM There may be some truth to the statement that the repro molding and the GM stuff is made by the same supplier. I have installed repro rocker moldings and GM rocker moldings and could swear they are the same gauge material and quality. I have used nos in the past and it seemed much better. There was a post a few weeks ago about the front wheel well moldings for a '69 not having all of the holes drilled in them. I called Rick's and they said all moldings were this way. If I can't find nos pieces I may just save my money and buy repro as the new GM stuff is disappointing. Wes
rojo Apr 27th, 01, 04:59 AM Just an update for those interested. Ricks has stopped selling the repo wheel well trim for the 69's. They said the manufacturer was retooling. I asked what was the problem and they said "the trim just didn't fit". Anyway, I ordered the GM pieces $160.00 bucks (ouch), hope they fit.

trezpan Apr 28th, 01, 09:05 AM yes chris.... at a recent show i saw the trim attached with screws or bolt heads. the ricks catalog sells a screw kit but my inner fender attaches with the bolts. i'm kind of confused also
