my 67 had to old quarter window takes two hands to get up problem, er i should say to hands to roll up problem

so i just replaced the lower rollers as that seems to fix the problem for most people,
well i am not so lucky, my quarter windows still need some help to get up
i believe the problem is that the upper 2 rollers are also worn but i cant seem to find anyone who sells them, or am i not looking in the right places

does any one know who sells the upper rollers for rear quarter windows?

or does anyone have any other suggestions as to what else should try to fix the window problem?

thanks everyone
Jon

I'd lie to know too, I was told you cant get those parts unless you part them out of a donar car. Does somene make them now? Is there another GM car that those can be taken from?

I could've sworn I answered this post a week ago? Rick's and a few other places sell the upper rollers, but they do not have the ~0.020" releaf cut in each side. Without this feature, they bind on the screw in posts. I bought the repros and had a friend cut the releafs. Rick's is aware of the problem, but said that they needed to wait for the current stock to be depleted before the proper ones would be made. Maybe you should call them and find out if that has happened.

did you buy that whole thing assembled? or in pieces?

and i think what hammered is saying is if you can turn the upper 2 (both on the metal plate) by hand you are good, but if they bind then you have the same problem he had...

400bird: Thanks, now I know I'm not going crazy.

QW-1 and QW-4 on page 20 of Rick's catalogue. The QW-4 comes with the stud and spring. QW-1 is the lower middle roller that is pressed onto the stud. The third roller stud is riveted to the frame and so the roller cannot be replaced. I used my old stud and the new spring on the one roller after having the necessary releaf cut into it so it would spin.

wagonman: I would check to see if the sprung roller can spin on that stud. I hope you didn't spend all that money to get an incorrectly made part.

On my 67 I drill out the roller that was rivited and replaced it with a new roller.I Brought the replacement wheels and had an extra window to use as a guide.I did this long ago I think I used a nut and bolt to replace the rivit with lock tight on it.work find no problems.

I think the rivited roller is mor of a "glide" anyway, so I don't think you have to get it to spin. When I did mine, I replaced the bolt on rollers, and just worked the riveted one with wd40. I finally got it to spin with a little effort, but it never spun freely. Mine would barely go up adn down before I started, (even helping it with my free hand. However, after cleaning and painting the tracks, putting the new bolt on rollers, and using ample lithium grease, my windows go up and down very freely.

400bird: The assembly is located on page 20, upper left corner, WR-25, WR-26, $26.95/side, Rick's catalogue.

Wagonman: You need to get some window setting tape, a tacky thin rubber tape that is about 1.5" wide. You can get it at a glass shop. Use a little weatherstrip adhesive on the glass edge and inside the chrome channel. The tape gets swaged between these two and you trim the excess off with a razor blade. It's best to take the rubber weatherstrip out of the channel before doing this. I used a deadblow hammer to seat mine and am very happy with the final results.

My personal opinion on the rollers is that they are meant to turn only when they get in a bind. The middle one has to be a guide because it slides in a channel and must slip on one or both sides. My riveted roller spins very free and my sprung roller would spin free if not for the spring.

try cleaning the rust / ect out of your tracks with steel wool and apply a thin coat of white lithium grease in the tracks.
I had all the gm rollers given to me when i bought my camaro, and when i went to install i noticed they were fine, just binding up on 38 years of dirt.
