I'm swapping my broken 327/TH350 combo out for a fresh 350/700R4 combo. I've read at least a dozen posts and some of them say you have to swap out the TH350 crossmember for a TH400 crossmember, and some say that the TH350 crossmember works fine, you just have to drill a couple of new holes in the frame. My car is a 69.

Can anyone say for sure if I need a TH400 crossmember? I don't want to spend the $80 on one if I don't have to.

I think what you need to do is use a 400 cross member and modify the holes in it. Not drill new holes in the cars frame. Another option is to pick up a new cross member for a 700R4 from someone like bowtie overdrives, more expensive this way.

The T400 crossmember works with 200R4. Not sure, but I think PG X will work with 700R4 as you described.

A turbo 400 X member will work with a 700R4 if the holes are modified. A 350 X member will not work. The 200's mount is longer still, needing a custom X member.

More confusion! It may boil down to how much work you are willing to do to make the TH350 crossmember work. I know the TH350 crossmember works with the 200R4, no custom work necessary as it's the same physical size as the TH350.

Sorry if I adding more confusion here, but I may or may not be right with the info I posted regarding the cross members for the 700R4. However, I'm 99% sure that the 350 cross member will not work with a 2004R and that with hole modifications to a 400 cross member, will work.

Anyway, what you should do is call BTO and ask. They will tell you straight up what will and won’t work. 760 947 5240

I called bowtie overdrives and was told the TH350 crossmember would work fine. I just had to move it back on the frame and drill new mounting holes in the frame.

I saved myself the headaches and bought the Bowtie Overdrives crossmember. It bolted right up with no extra drilling.
