I'm thinking of purchasing a 700R4 for my 68 Camaro. Currently have TH350. I've located a 700R4 totally rebuilt with above stock shift kit torque conv and flywheel for $650 is this a fair price? What are the pros and cons of this conversion? I would like to drive this car with best gas mileage and cruisin

That is a good price. The 700R4 will give you a .70 4th gear, vs. a 1.00 in the TH350. That will let you cruise at a much lower RPM. You also get the benefit of a lockup TC. Alot of guys will tell you to go with a 200R4, as it is an easier swap. With the 700R4 you need a shortened driveshaft (about 3") as well as a new crossmember (TH400). The 200R4 dosen't need either of these as it's the same size as the TH350.

Depends on the HP you plan to put through it too. Search 700R4 on here for a ton of info on what guys are running, and where the 700R4 can be made to live.

Correct for the most part, but while the 2004R is the same length as a TH350 the trans mount is located a bout six inche farther to the rear of trans. You will need either a TH400, which may need modifying or BTO make a tubular crossmember.

Thanks for the correction. I was under the impression that the 200R4 was dimensionally the same as the Th350, down to the bolt holes for mounting the crossmember. So the TH400 crossmember is a must.
