Hi, I´m just finishing my 67 SS/RS convertible restoration and I got to the tires issue. I don´t want the car to look too muscle so I´m thinking about the Wide Oval E70 14 with raised white letters from Cocker Tires. Is anyone here familiar with those tires? Any other recomendation?

Ian,

Coker makes alot of the classic reproduction tires for muscle cars. If you are going for the original look go with them. You won't be dissapointed. I believe that Goodyear and Firestone allowed Coker to purchase their original molds years ago.

If you are not concerned about the originality then I would suggest a set of P235/60/R15 tires all the way around. The car will ride better, it will handle better and if you ever get stuck in the rain the traction is far superior to that of a rib tread design bias belted tire. If you are going with 14" tires then P235/60/R14 is fine too. I was running P 245/60/R14's on the front of my first 1969 camaro and they cleared ok. The 235's in any size will make it look less muscle.

For what it's worth I was in the auto and tire business from 1989-1998. My main job during those years I did not work at a car dealership was to sell tires. I worked for an independent Goodyear store and a corporate owned Firestone store. Even at the dealership service counter I was their "tire specialist" back then. It's been a little over 8 years since I left that profession but I still remember a few things now and then.

The G60's may be a bit too wide for the front. I have those on the rear of the car I just purchased. They are really old bias belted tires turned blackwall out. If you were to put those on put them only in the rear. E60's or F60's if you want the original look should be ok all the way around.

you bring back memories of my first 1969 Camaro. That think had L60 14's They were old @$$ JC Penney scat trac 60's I got from a friend of mine who I think got him from his dad. Those things had to be 800 years old. A friend of mine used to have a 1969 Firebird with a BBC 454 in it. He just anahilated his N50-15's...Those things were crazy....The N50-15's were equaivalent to a 315/50/15 size. He wishes he never sold that car just like I wish I never sold my first 1969 Camaro. It's been 12 years since I sold that car and I still remember the VIN and trim tag #'s like it was yesterday.

My E's and L's are still mounted on my 14" x 7" and 9" Fenton slotted mags up on a shelf in my garage.

I never had a rim wide enough to run N-50's after my B-i-L sold the 15" x 10" wide dark centered ET's he had back then on the back of his '70, Second Gen. car

I still consider those old dark centered ET's as being classic hotrod rims just like my Fenton slotted mag's the CRAGAR SS ones and the CRAGAR deep dish chrome reverse!!
