Finally getting around to fixing my quarter windows, and have a question or two - neither side would roll up or down without grabbing the top of the glass and giving a fair amount of assistance. Would bind up without the help. After reading several threads here, I fully expected to find the center roller broken or gone completely. Guess what - it's still intact.

Questions:

!. NONE of the rollers spin freely, and in fact it takes a fair amount of effort to spin any of them by hand. I assume they should spin freely? If so, do I need to remove them from the mounting plate to work on/replace them?

2. The center roller seems to pivot - is this correct? Is it mounted on a ball stud or something?

3.The roller on the far right has some sort of spring thing that fits into the groove of the roller, and seems to act as a brake of some sort. What's up with that?

Anyway, I assume once all the rollers spin freely, and everything is cleaned and lubed I should be good to go. Any input and of course all replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answering my own question -

I'm pretty much a dumbass - I just assumed something was broken, and never even ocurred to me to just lube the tracks and see if that helps.

It helps. A lot. The windows now roll up and down like I assume they should. Don't know if those rollers are SUPPOSED to spin freely or not - they seem to act more as guides or slides. Anyway - I'm buttoning it back up as the windows work great. Oh, as soon as I adjust the one I took completely apart. (see paragraph 2)

BPOS out.

The upper left should spin freely. The sprung roller has a lot of tension against it and the lower one is pressed onto the stud tightly from the start. I replaced all of mine and liberally applied lithium grease. Once adjusted, they all work well.

What is the point of that roller with the spring on it. On my car this roller doesn't roll at all due to the spring. Thanks

They should roll Al. If you have the panel off, yank it all out and give it a good going over. Roller replacement kits are cheap and worth it. There is a pic of one of mine soaking while I cleaned it here... Interior Pics (http://www.carsbyjim.com/index.cfm/pageid/100#anchor_FULLimg)
