Has anyone painted the Z/28 stripes on the hood, front header panel, and cowl panel separately (ie - those pieces not installed on the car)? If so, any tips on stripe alignment or other advice/recommendations? Or is it best to re-install the front clip/line everything up and then paint the stripes? I painted the front end pieces off the car.

Appreciate you feedback!

If I were you (and I'm not), I would not even attempt that. It is difficult enough to get a color match painting the front clip pieces off of the car. Putting the stripes on the separate pieces could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Don't do it. Color match is the least of your problems. With alining the sheet metal you will almost never get the stripes to line up. There is way to much alining that needs to be done to get the parts fit nice. The stripes only go on the hood and header so you can paint these parts than put them together and then you just spray the stripes and you only have to clear the hood and header again. Just my .02 no sure what its worth. :D There is one way to paint apart, first you put all together and line it all up. Than you can put a small mark where all the stenicls go. now take it apart paint your color. than line up your stenicl with the marks. But you are still taking a chance.

I painted the stripes on my hood and cowl panel and cleared them before assembly. After assembly, and body panel alignment, I taped for the stripes on the header panel, removed the header panel and painted the stripes and cleared it, then reinstalled it. Jack
