Hello everyone. My tail light lenses leak water inside the trunk when I wash the car. The water runs off the trunk, onto the lense area, and into the trunk. The lenses are new, the housings are original. When I put in the new "sponge" type gasket, I put it between the lense and the molded housing. However, I had to split it in 2 halves to make the lense "snap" into place. Is there supposed to be a gasket between the lense and the tail panel? Looks like the gasket would fit there perfectly. I have looked in both my assembly manuals to no avail. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks in advance! Take care, Jeff

The gasket goes between the lense and the tail panel. You should not have to split it. You can also add some black weatherstrip glue between the gasket and the lense to hold the gasket in place.

Hello, Thanks for the reply. Is there supposed to be any type of gasket or sealer between the moulded housing and the lensewhere they "snap" together? I'm sure when I took everything apart, there was some type of material in there.
Take care, Jeff Parker

No, there is nothing but air between the lens and the housing. The gasket between the lens and tail panel seals off the area. When the gasket is new, it can be difficult to get the fasteners started but once they are, it will seal nicely. I did use a dab of black weatherstrip adhesive to hold the gasket in place during installation.

Are you sure that it's not running in through the bumper mounting holes? If so, make sure that you seal them up as well. I used the 3M strip caulk, like the type they use when installing windshields and worked like a charm.

Hello everyone, Thanks for the replies and setting me straight on how the gaskets are supposed to go. Guess that explains why I had such a hard time putting the gasket between the housing and the lense! It's great to have a great bunch of guys (and Gals) to ask questions!
Judd, thanks for the idea about the bolts. I don't have sealant around the bolts, but I will now! Thanks again! Jeff
