Do a search on this forum and you'll find directions on what works :) CFunK Aug 10th, 06, 05:25 PM What ^^^ said. RIT dye and a search will give you all you need to know. Pacecarjeff Aug 10th, 06, 06:10 PM Just stick them right in. The dye ONLY sticks to the fabric parts. :) DjD Aug 23rd, 06, 06:56 PM Just stick them right in. The dye ONLY sticks to the fabric parts. :) Don't try to change the color, I have some dark blue belts and dyed them black twice. Placed on a black seat they are still blue just darker. Oh, Rit dye did turn the clear rubber on the buckles black as well as darkened some other plastic parts... I think the more worn the material is the better teh dye will take. Unreal Aug 24th, 06, 10:07 AM Are they faded, or just dirty? I was planning to redye mine, but after I cleaned them a couple of times with TSP, they looked pretty good. I put them in without dying them.....although I did dab a little on some faded threads. erik67ssrs Aug 24th, 06, 10:28 AM I wouldn't use RIT dye. A friend did and it didn't last as long or look as good as what I did. I bought vinyl and fabric dye in black in a spray can from Pep Boys. I washed my belts first and then used a hand degreaser to remove grease (a ton of dirt and grease came out), then let them dry. Once dry, I taped off the belt buckle and the white cloth tag and sprayed one side. When dry, I sprayed the other. You will need to move the belt buckle when both sides are done and shoot the area the buckle covered. They look new. DjD Aug 24th, 06, 11:30 AM Erik, how are they holding up? Any mystery black streaks on clothing after a ride in the Camaro? Chuck L Aug 24th, 06, 12:23 PM What does it do to the white sometime faded yellow date labels? erik67ssrs Aug 24th, 06, 02:03 PM As for the white date tag, I taped over it. If you don't, it will get stained. As for streaks or anything, everything is fine, it all looks even. I did both front and back seatbelts and haven't had any paint rub off on my clothes. Just make sure to let them completely dry (vinyl dye takes a lot longer than spray paint). I put them out in the sun. Unreal Aug 25th, 06, 10:53 AM I had replacement tags made (ask Kevin W) and sewed them in with my wife's machine. Steptoe Aug 25th, 06, 01:33 PM In NZ every car must go thru a "warrent of fitness" (WoF) compliance to be road worthy Seat belts must not be faded or frayed I still have my orginal belts...and interior upholstery in new condition. I have used Pledge furniture polish for these, for over 30 yrs.. the camaro has been used as a daily driver since 1974 DjD Aug 26th, 06, 08:39 PM OK - I took my tried to be dyed black, dark blue belts and wiped them down with SEM Vinyl Prep and then sprayed them with Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric coating. They came out real nice, I used the gloss black. When they dried they were just a bit stiff but use will work them out, just installing them seems to have taken away some of the stiffness... 69L65-4spd Aug 27th, 06, 08:49 PM Did this many years ago but I used black shoe dye that came in the bottle with the "dobber" thingy. You know what I'm talking about even if its not spelled correctly. Still looks good after nearly 20 yrs. Jim |
