View Full Version : 1969 Camaro Big Block or Not?? sspete67 Aug 11th, 06, 07:38 PM HOw can I tell if this Camaro is a Real Super Sport Block Block car? Here's the Vin Number, Can someone please help me decode this? Thanks for your time and help. 124379L505360 JimM Aug 11th, 06, 07:49 PM the vin only tells that it is a V* car, not which. Some searching here would reveal a lot, but... Big block cars have the heater hoses coming out near the center on the housing, not by the valve cover like a SB car. Big block engine frame mounts and crossmember mount the engine 1" toward the right. BB's have 23" radiators (note so do SB a/c cars in 67-68) Auto trans big blocks have T400's, T400 have electric kickdown switches on the carb. Manual trans BB's have muncies (note so do SS 350's) BB cars had the entire tail panel painted black Power disk brakes, dual exhaust (also optionalon other models, standard one SS) mccorry Aug 19th, 06, 07:14 PM Could you post up the trim tag information? click Aug 20th, 06, 08:21 AM Pete that car is only 489 away from my car. cousins :) Please post all the numbers off the cowl tag on the firewall next to the brake booster. Also try to get the VIN off the tranny and the numbers off the axle. As JimM mentioned there are lots of clues but no facts in just the VIN. Here is the best info. on where to look for numbers Camaros Research Group (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml) Can you drop the gas tank? If its never been down, good chance there is a broadcast sheet on top of it and that will confirm everything you are looking for. Pics help so feel free to post them here, if you cant, email them to me and I can post them for you. The more info. you give us, the easier to help you out. Look for a 3"x5" reinforcement plate on the rear frame behind the drivers side rear tire at about 1 o'clock with 2 holes in it. Thats for dual exhaust hanger to confirm original duals. |
