I almost have all the parts for the 3rd gen power steering conversion. I purchased the power steering pump today. What I have is a cardone 20-6000 power steering box for a 1969 camaro. Will I need to drill out the pressure control valve to get more pressure?

It should be fine without drilling. At least mine is.

You want a box for a 3rd Gen IROC Camaro. Not a box for a '69 Camaro.

I bought a new 69 Pump and used it with my 3rd generation Cardone box, it works perfectly. No need for a 3rd gen pump.

Thanks guys. Another question. After I install the Lee adapters in the 3rd gen steering box. Do the 69 power steering hoses just screw onto the steering box? No o-ring or anything, do the threads match close enough?

Brian, I'm not sure if Phil is saying "box" or "pump". If he means pump, yes either pump will work. If he means "box", he does not want a '69.

Brian's Quote : The Cardone 276550 is the box you want, although other Gear rebuilders make similiar units and are available from any auto part store, I just found that Kragen was the least expensive. Just make sure you get an 85-92 Camaro IROC with Performance Suspension box, otherwise known as a GM 7843512, as recommended by CarCraft.
Rock Auto carries this same unit for $116, but after shipping I would think it would be the same as Kragen plus I don't have to ship the old unit back anywhere.

Sorry I had typed box in when I ment pump. I have the Cardone 276550 box and a pump for the 69 model.

Yes, I just checked your 20-6000 part number and that is for a "Pump". You should be good to go. Sorry, if I created any confusion.

I created the confusion. Thank you tsj69 for questioning my post. I know you were trying to keep me from making an error.

Yes the threads connect up with the metric threads in the box. Be careful to not apply too much torque or you can strip. You want it to seat and then maybe a quarter turn to compress max!
I used some teflon tape no as a sealer but to create a better grip between the standard and metric threads. I put about 3 layers around each thread nut and then threaded it into place. This worked out best for me.
