View Full Version : Pace Car Registry?
weister1 Aug 13th, 06, 02:41 PM I'll start out by letting you all know that I know very little about Camaro's. I have a big block Chevelle and have also always liked the looks of the 1969 Pace Cars. I was looking for a 1969 pace car to restore, preferably a big block if at all possible. There is one for sale in New York but looks like it has some question marks surrounding it which brings about my questions. First, is there a registry that lists all pace car vins so you know 100% it's legit and not a fake? Second, is there any way to know for sure if it's a big block or small block car originally? Assuming there is not a P.O.P or buildsheet that is. Anything on the cowl tag or vin?
Thanks in advance all
weister1 Aug 13th, 06, 02:45 PM sorry for the double post it I received a message that to go back and when I went back there was nothing to post. Not sure how it happened or how to delete one please delete if possible.

clill Aug 13th, 06, 04:26 PM You might ask here.. http://www.camaropacecars.com/
shaugs Aug 13th, 06, 04:44 PM If its the car on Long Island , NY that has been on ebay for a year...stay away. The trim tag is bogus and the car looks like a mess.
weister1 Aug 13th, 06, 06:22 PM That's the one. I looked closely at the trim tag but I don't see anything. What are you seeing that I'm not?
Kurt S Aug 13th, 06, 06:32 PM That car may be real, but the tag isn't.
2 source of info:
CRG has a database of over 11,000 cars, 67-69.
D. Crispino has a registry of 67 and 69 cars.
No easy way to prove what engine was in 69 pacer.
weister1 Aug 13th, 06, 06:42 PM OK, so one cannot tell what motor for sure. I just got off the phone with the guy who owns the car. He said that someone took off the cowl tag and when they put it back on "smashed the edges". Is that what's wrong with it? too flat? I was about to strike a deal with the guy, you guys have me a bit spooked now. The tag looks good to me but I'm missing something; I want a real car how do I tell?
69-Z11Pacer Aug 13th, 06, 07:13 PM It's standard protocol not to discuss the precise reasons that a tag is fake. If we did, the tag counterfeiters could change their ways, and make them more correct. As it stands, the pace car you are speaking of (124679N623007) has a fake tag on it. I truly believe the car is a real pace car, but the tag is not. So even if you restore the car, it will always be questionable.
weister1 Aug 13th, 06, 07:22 PM I see the logic in it for sure. Now I'm going to be paranoid because I obviously can't tell the difference in a real one and a fake one. I guess I'll stick to cars with paperwork. Thanks for your help.
Pacecarjeff Aug 13th, 06, 08:20 PM They are making up phony documents these days also.
weister1 Aug 14th, 06, 06:22 AM OK, so if the car in NY has bum tag that I can't seem to tell the difference in and paper work is being faked how do you get the real McCoy?
Pacecarjeff Aug 14th, 06, 07:49 AM Very carefully......
No really. you either become educated about this stuff,
or post requests here.
The CRG people would also be a very good resource.
They have a database with the history on a bunch of cars.
The counterfeits are not perfect (not yet anyways) so they are still pretty easy to spot.
Just do your homework before you spend your money.
