OK guys...help me out here.
I have a 69 Z/28 old drag car called "Home Grown" that many of you have probably seen on Cars in barns.
I am in touch with the original owner who has NO pics of the car when he used to race it in California (It even raced and took out a title at the last Lions meet) and the paint is real bad on the car.
Do I "A" Keep going and try to find original pics of it to restore it back to its drag heritage or "B" turn it back to a Cortez silver / black striped with endura Z/28 ??????
If I had pics I know which way i would go.

Shane,
You really need to post some pictures of the car in its current shape to get a quailty type awnser.
Just depends on how much is left of original body in my opinion.

I think it should be just as found
keep whatever ugly drag racing paint job and remnants of decals it has (what is left of it) and just make it safe driver
you will get WAY more looks and crowds at ANY car show in the "as found" state than just another restored Z28
history and patina is far more interesting than another fresh restored car

restore it as a drag car or sell it and buy what you want

The paint job is real bad with crows feet and bad fading. Both 1/4's are stripped to bare metal with ugly home made lip flares and a dubious tub job.
I'll try and take a few current pics of it so you can see what i mean. The original structure and sheetmetal are still pristine California metal which is a real bonus with all the original eqipment still intact except the motor & box.
Don't know what it would be worth to sell...never seriously thought about it.
Here is a pic of my El camino but you can sort of see the Z in the background.

then spray bomb the rusty stuff
it is neat enough to trigger the memory of how they used to be
*I* would leave it and make it into a retired drag Camaro with HUGE patina

I forgot to add that it still has the Dana 60 with all the wheelie bar mounts as well as the slapper bars and frame connectors. I got a lot of stuff with it like the original seatbelts that were pulled in 1970 and are in a bag...they are the brightest blue...I bet if i were silly and sold them on eBay I would get a bunch for them (I'm not silly though) !

I'd restore it as it was raced. That way you don't have to worry about getting 100% correct dated parts and it will be a nice tribute to it's past. There are a ton of restored stock Z28's out there and since it's missing the original motor it will never be all original again. I think it will be more fun restored as a race car. You can't really leave it as is with the stripped quarters.

Restore it as a race car. The racing look is that car's true heritage, the Z/28 is just what it was for a short time before it really started it's life.
