Well, the heartbreak Camaro has struck again. Have a 69 with Turbo 400 that has worked with no problem until this weekend. Car has only been driven out of the garage and the paint shop but the car moved. I tuned up the engine this weekend to drive it to the muffler shop, put it in reverse, moved about four feet and car would not move! Shifted to drive and nothing. Shut it down, checked tranny dipstick and it showed low. Put a qt. of fluid in it and still did not move. I am afraid to overfill it because I believe when I overfilled it when I first got it. I think that way because whenever I started it in my garage fiddling with the engine, I would get some trans fluid leaks. Did not seem to leak from rear seal or pan gasket. What is the proper way to fill a turbo 400 with fluid? If I drain the pan, how much fluid SHOULD go in? I am not a tranny expert by any definition and I could really use your help. I am so close to towing this car to a field and tossing a molotov cocktail into it!

Turn the engine on, let warm up a little, flick the trabs thru the gears, check dipstick.

Pull the pan. If it's not loaded with friction material or alot of metal or both, change the filter, pull down the filter pick-up tube and double o-ring it, reinstall the pan, put 4qts in it and start the motor. Add the additional fluid while running and check the level in park with it running. Do not overfill. I would also recomend a bottle of Lucas Transmission Condition. If this doesn't solve your problem you have an internal trans problem.
