Anybody got anything good to say about fenders, floorpans and such that they got from classic chev. parts or ground up. Or do I need to be concerned. Am I gonna get about the same thing in a fender no matter where I get it?

I just got back from helping a guy down the road put a set of Godmark fenders and cowl hood on a 69 camaro. The fit was as good as the orignals. As long as your working on a straight car you should have no problems. As far as appearance I couldn't tell, they seemed to match the door creases perfectly. Also he had a repo deck lid that fit great also. I was leary about these parts myself,(that's why I offered my assistance) but I think they are as good as originals. I have heard alot of horror stories about the repo sheet metal; I think it has alot do do with the installer. I have also used sherman ***. 1/4 panels and they also fit fine. I'm going to install a couple of floorpans (from Rick's 1st gen.) in a camaro I'm working on in the fall.

Goodmark has always been my choice for replacement body panels. They sell to some aftermarket supply houses (NPD) who in turn sell for something less than Goodmark sells the same parts for. (They don't want to compete with their own customers). In my opinion, their quality control is better than any of the others that I have used.

Rick's and other suppliers sell parts from Goodmark. I have replaced both quarters and my rear panel so far with there parts. I have also just started my own resale company, 3/01 to sell parts. I also carry Goodmark. Compare my prices. www.creeksideclassics.com (http://www.creeksideclassics.com)

The other thing to consider is that the quality of the repro stuff is improving. Last I checked, it was still Taiwan that mfg the stuff but the pressure is on for better parts. I looked at a repro RS fender for my 69 and was pleased with the quality.

thardin;

When in doubt, ask the supplier where they get the parts from.

If the person on the other end of the phone says "we have them made up special just for us", don't believe him. Tell him that if you can't confirm who the manufacturer is, you will just go to somebody else.

I feel this is reasonable.

Wes; Of course that's reasonable. If a parts house won't tell you who made the parts, you're in the wrong place. You're also right about the retailer having the parts made up themselves. To my knowledge, CARS has SOME parts that they make themselves, but I'm of the opinion that most of them are for tri-5 Chevys. All parts houses buy from 3-4 manufacturers and in my opinion, Goodmark makes the best sheetmetal.
