Hi, just wondering do alternators "Whistle" sometime. I am on my second brand new summit 1 wire alternator and on deceleration I get a very faint whistle like sound..kind of like a turbo. I have read a couple of posts that say maybe bearings..however what are the odds that 2 brand new alternators could have bad bearings.

I'm thinking maybe the fan on the alternator is whisteling??

any ideas? alternator spins fine..no binding..and it is not a belt squeel.

thanks
chris

The alternator belt does not need to be very tight, Just a little more then hand tight. If you overtighten them, it WILL damage the bearing.

Is your alt. belt real tight?
All your other belts should be very tight, not that one.

Thanks for the reply...belt has 1/2-3/4 of an inch of play per spec.

It could be the pulley fan and its air flow giving the whistle.
