Hi All:
Anyone know if they make any front windshield molding clips that can be installed after the windshield is in??? All my clips were screwed in prior to the windshield. Now that the new windshield is in and the moldings are back on, two of the clips are sitting up too high and the right side of the top molding will not lay flat against the windshield. I need to take these two clips out and put in two shorter ones. The Fisher Body manual says that at one time there were clips that could be screwed in after a hole was drilled without removing the windshield (if for instance one of the studs broke off). Has anyone seen clips like this?? I guess I'll just have to cut down the other clips that are too high since there's no getting the screws out now that the windshield is in.....
Any help/comments would be appreciated
Thanks

I can't help, but I can see your dilemna. I can remember thinking what a pain it would be to unscrew the clips with the windshield in, when I was disassembling a couple years ago.
This was discussed before, but I am absolutely certain that my Van Nuys convertible never had studs and came from the factory with screws in the clips. The only thing I can recommend is next time the windshield is out to either grind the tips off the screws to make them shorter, or switch to a very short hex head screw. Unless you can mask off the area, grind down or bend down the clips that you have now to make them work, I really don't know.

Thanks Bonecrusher...
I do appreciate the help. I guess I'm not too bad off only having two clips that are messed up. I can't even imagine what would have happened if i put the clip's that Rick's sent me on the windshield. And they "Specialize" in a total of three vehicles?????? If I hadn't had something to go by in terms of a few old clips on the car, it really would have been a mess. The glass guy told me they sent me rear window coupe (obviously) clips despite the fact they are marked, '68 convertible front windshield molding clips. Between the standard, "Hey. what can I tell you, it's an aftermarket part" from Rick's and issue after issue with the car, it seems as though this entire year has been filled with those "Sorry, I don't know how to help you" problems. The fun is slowly being sucked out of the car. I have the glass guy coming over the house today. Hoepfully he'll have answer, or some extra money to take the car off my hands....

Im curious as to the difference in your 68 and my 69. I had my top redone, vinyl, and had the glass out for that. All my clips slip over a stud not a screw. The studs are welded to the posts and header. The clips are found at the local paint and supply store. They have several sizes depending on what you need. Look at the pics in my link under Vinyl Top folder and you can see my studs there. There are aftermarket screws to use if a stud rusts off. Check with your local paint supply shop that supplies paint and items to the body shops. They also have catalogs showing pics of all the clips they run into.
good luck

Click,
The clips are all screwed in on my car prior to the installation of the windshield. There were/are no studs. This might be a convertible thing to allow the header miolding to slip over the window channel. The studs would most likely get in the way of the header molding properly sitting down all the way. There is no way, that I see, to get another clip screwed in without the windshield coming out. The only thing that I'm thinking I might be able to do is silicon the moldings on in the spot where I will be taking off the clips that are too high. Not the best solution but at this point probaly the only one. I'll try a few of the local body shops and paint stores to see if they've ever run accorss this problem.
Thanks for the help.
