View Full Version : Temp sender? In head or manifold?

I just bought Ricks console gauge package and need to know where does the temp sender go? I have Sunpro gauges now and it is installed in the manifold. I wasn't sure is the console gauges were set up for the head temps. I would guess the head would show a higher reading. I was thinking it is calibrated for one of them?

Thanks

I don't think the calibration had to do with the location. Temp is temp. There is a calibration difference between the idiot light and temp guage.

In my Z I have the idiot light sender in the normal block location, and my console guage (Autometer panel and Autometer gauges) temp sending unit in the manifold behind the alt. The temp sender behind the alt maintains the stock look.

I believe the factory location is in the driver side head with the wire coming from the fender area over to it.

The 69 SB location is between the #1 & #3 cyl.

Beginning in October of '68 the temp unit moved from the manifold to the head. Your wiring harness knows (length of wire will determine what it reaches).

It will reach from the bulk head on the firewall to the manifold fitting. I have an air gap intake. Does the head wire run along the fender then over to the head? or does it run with the alt wires? I'm wondering if I should just run it along this http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=PRO%2D141%2D638&N=700+115&autoview=sku and then right to the sender or just keep it in the manifold. I have that loom.

The wire is with the harness that runs over the LH inner fender, and exits about 1/2 way from the bulkhead fitting to the radiator support. It had a special, if I remember it right, a special slide-on connector.

Mines a little different. It's only around 30" long and has a push on connector. I have to change it to a slide on. It will only reach if I go from the bulk connector ,along the firewall over towards the dizzy then along the manifold.
