rusty Z

I am going to start my resto project this fall on my '68. I'm planning on taking off the subframe to sandblast and paint. Should I do the same on the unibody bottom or should I have it under coated? Please advise. Thanks

Do not undercoat with the rubberized material. This type of coating is often used to coverup bad spots and is looked upon as a no-no. I have heard two schools of thought on this matter. With both it is imperative that you remove any rust and repair any places that have rusted through. Then, coat with rustolium semi-black or pre-coat with por-15 and then paint. If you use the por-15 method it can be used to repair minor holes (inch or less). Either way is accepted and there are many opinions on both sides. But what ever you do, do not coat with a rubberized material.

Don't undercoat. It makes it look like you are hiding something.
