i have been rebuilding a 67 camaro rs/ss. i have the engine in (496), and new wiring harness from factoryfit.com. i have wired up the engine harness and the under dash harness. i do have the rest of the harnesses but i don't feel like they need to be in just yet as i haven't painted the car and put it back together. all i want to do is fire the engine up. i also have put the msd 6al system in. all wiring for the msd ignition is complete. i have put the battery in and put all the wires to the starter and turned the ignition switch. no juice going to the ignition switch. i used a test light and do have power at the starter. but i do not have any power going out of the starter (brand new starter as well). what is the problem? do i need to wire up the headlight harness, have i wired something up wrong, am i forgetting something? please help. all i want to do is hear the engine and make sure no problems here. thanks for any help.

You need power off of the battery or where the positive battery cable attaches to the starter to go to the ignition switch and then out of the ignition switch you will have power out of it depending on it's position for powering the MSD system and also to engage the starter solenoid.
You also need a ground from the battery to the engine and from either the engine to the body or from the battery negative terminal to the body of the car. This connection to the body will not affect the car from running unless the MSD system is grounded to the body. It will affect later if this connection is not made for things grounded to the body of the car like your interior gauges, lighting system, and so on.
If you just want to hear it run you could wire the MSD stuff right to the battery and then jumper the starter solenoid to get it to crank and to shut it off, remove the ignition 12 volt wire from the battery as this will shut off the ignition system.
I would though get further along with getting the gauges working so you might get a heads-up on any problems like low oil pressure.

You need the front lighting harness to get power from the battery to the ignition switch.
