I may have to sell my camaro. COL (cry out loud) I have had this camaro for 22 years and would like to get the higest price I can for it. It's pretty much all original except a re paint in 1985. It has 68,000 documented original miles. Do you think It would be better to restore it or sell it the way it is so the buyer can see how orginal it is? http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a180/mr396/th_camaro41.jpg (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a180/mr396/camaro41.jpg)

i would agree on the: "sell it as original" it seems harder to find them original low mileg. Camaros, to bad you couldn't keep it after 22 yrs. of owning it..

Definitely leave it exactly as it is. A shame if you have to sell it. I think I remember reading about your car in a magazine a few years ago, if I'm not mistaken. A big block SS 'vert 68 is VERY rare, especially as a survivor. If I had the money I'd be all over that car. I hope you can figure out a way to keep it.

If you restore it all you will get is your money that you invest in the resto. If you leave it as is you will have something that most collectors would love to own. You can restore it 100 times it will only be original once.

To quote another Camaro nut... I will walk past 1000 restored cars to see 1 original one:thumbsup:

For God sakes, find a way to keep that car.

I doubt you owe money on it, so its not like selling it would pay off some debt that is crippling you.

You can't sell it. Keep it. Keep it. Keep it.
On the other hand....I'd be a potential buyer...;)

besides power windows and a remote lh mirror, is there any option it DOESN'T have?

WOW, a L34 air car with tilt, am-fm, sport wheel, guages, deluxe interior, fold down rear seat, that car is LOADED!!!!

Thanks for the comments,You guys crack me up. I agree to keep it original. It was special ordered late in the year 07C, and i've never seen one quite like it. If I did sell it, I don't think I could replace it. It didn't come with the rally wheel option, but it does have p/disc brakes.

ok, so it does not have 3 options ... big deal

wow, super car

Yes, leave it alone!

JimM can a-test to mine being a survivor car except for the changes I've recently made to it mechanically AND the old second paint job on it.

He, He!! Smelly, fancy stock interior and all!!

Well things haven't changed so I will be putting the ole camaro up for sale. Thanks for all of your input, I will be selling my Camaro in unrestored condition. I haven't seen any documented 68 L34 SS 396 RS a/c convertibles sell so I don't know the value. Does anyone know of any that have sold, So I can get an idea of what to ask for it.

This car has been listed on ebay more than once.
Bidding went well above 50K, but never met reserve. Its a very nice car, and it's not going to be cheap.
I just missed an L78 68 RSSS vert that went for alot less, but didn't have docs.

I'm not sure what the value would be, but it will be worth more in the future. I just saw on the news how people are getting 2nd loans on their automobiles. I don't want to discuss your financial history, but this may be an option for you.

Into the 50's after 1 day. Anyone remember where it ended last time?
Interesting the cover of the Classic Camaro catalog does not show the bumber gaurds, maybe the owner added them.
Also notice the mix of walnut and rosewood interior trim. Do you think the factory ran out of walnut near the end of the 68 run and substituted rosewood?

Just looked at E bay wow thats a nice car!
To find the best value on the car do a Barrett-Jackson search to find the value of what a real collector would pay for it, Would hate to see it go to cheap. And peice of mind for you!

I have owned this camaro for 20 years and never noticed the wood is darker on the console. you have good eyes. I added the front bumper guards, it had rear bumper guards on it when I got it.

You can resotre it a 100 times, but it's only original ONCE.

Keep it original, and if at ALL possible, try to keep the car.
Best of luck.

If possible keep it. I had a similar car that I purchased in the very late 1980's. I sold it in the mid 1990's. The car was red when I bought it. It was originally Cortez Silver with black stripes and a black vinyl top. It had a standard ivory interior. The car had factory air and was unmolested. I bought another 1969 Camaro a few months ago.

The bottom line is: Keep it original. I can assure you that when you look back several years from now you will have an extremely difficult time finding a similar unmolested car and it will cost a ton of money to resore it. Trust me, if possible keep it. If you absolutely must sell then leave it original. Most buyers prefer original cars and if they restore it they restore it the way they want.

I agree that this car is unrestored, unmolested, and has some very nice options, but it has been repainted, interior redyed, interior pieces mismatched, and options added.
For those reasons, I am one of the few who voted for "restore it", although I think the largest profit may be to sell it as is. Maybe my math is wrong, but what do you think it would cost to bring this car to #1 condition and what would the value be then?

The original question posted by our fellow member was should he restore it before selling it. I think the question to ask here is if it is for sale for $$$ listed in the prior ad should it be restored because it has been painted prior. My vote is for restoration before selling. I think this car is a prime canidate for restoration so as to perserve it. IMHO Phil
