View Full Version : where did you find your Camaro?
69camarofast Aug 17th, 06, 03:17 PM i was wondering where you found your Camaro? has it always been in the family?, did you find it in the paper?, from a freind?, exc. i spotted my 69 in a field..i saw the head light and front fender ..my son's 68 i found in the paper it was behind a house ..my other sons 68 i found by talking to a guy i didn't know..his car was broke down it front of a house that had some old cars in the back, so i stopped and started talking about Camaros and sure enough he knew of the 68 we bought about 2 miles down the road behind a barn..where did you find yours?
Matt M. Aug 17th, 06, 03:29 PM Right here on Camaros.net.
MY FIRST 69 Aug 17th, 06, 03:29 PM i got mine out of the auto trader. it was about 30 miles from my house.
Brian Lewis Aug 17th, 06, 03:55 PM Auto Trader website - 30 minutes from my house in southern CA. Lucky I bought it when I did before prices went North.
GWM 68 Aug 17th, 06, 03:59 PM I good friend of mine had the car (68) & drove it through high school & college. I called him back in 03 to see if he still had the car... He did! It had been sitting in his mother`s back yard for the past 10 years rusting away... Two weeks later it was mine!
tinygiant Aug 17th, 06, 04:02 PM Received an answer to a Wanted ad. Went to WI and picked it up two weeks later. It was a long road trip, but I hadn't been able to find a '68 vert in the condition/price range I wanted for a decade.
topoff68 Aug 17th, 06, 04:05 PM My grandmother bought the car in Hawii (god bless her) origonal owner RS with factor AC, PW, PT, PS, PB convertable car. She asked me to sell it for her 20 years ago and I couldn't do it I had to by it myself. Now it is a RS/SS clone 427 with all the origonal options and I have the # match 327 and everything else that I have changed stored in my garage.

kausboy Aug 17th, 06, 04:11 PM A good friend of mine told me about it sitting across the street from his brothers house. It was about 60 miles from where I lived and the guy was moving to the other end of the state and didn't want to take the car. He was a body man that had bought it for his wife as an anniversary present. Funny part is my wife and I bought on the day of our anniversary because my wife "always wanted one"! The car was a daily driver and I lowballed him since I really didn't have the money to pay for it. That night he called and asked what I planned to do with the car. I told him I wanted to restore it. He said he had some local kids that were looking at buying it and hot rodding it and he couldn't bear to see it torn up like that. He accepted my offer!! I had to do some "creative financing" and I drove it home! I believe that was back in 1998 -paid $2,800 for it. Base model 327, 2spd and power steering!
69CamaroRT Aug 17th, 06, 04:19 PM i came across my 1st z/rs camaro from a guy at work back in 1998, he had a brother that had it in his garage sitting since 1986. my 2nd z i came across because my nephew went down a dead end street and it was sitting there going to waste, so we stopped, offered and 2 weeks later i bought it.

Farm Boy Aug 17th, 06, 05:09 PM I found mine sitting in my Uncles driveway in 1972. He had just bought from a coworker for $900. He always had an eye for good deals on clean used cars. I asked if it was for sale it almost every time I saw him. I finally bought it in 1985 for $3000.
mr396 Aug 17th, 06, 05:16 PM In 1984 my ex girlfriends new boyfriend told my dad who told me about a guy who had some old cars that were in a barn. when we went to check it out, we found my camaro with 50,000 original miles and 1977 plates on it.There was a 68 shelby vert there sitting right next to my camaro and a bunch of convertibles of different makes.
SooperDave Aug 17th, 06, 05:42 PM cool topic...I found mine in Hemmings motor news in Feb'94...was located in N. Wilkesboro NC...the guy sent pictures in the mail - this was pre-email and digital cameras...pics looked good so we drove down there, cut a deal and brought her home...best purchase I ever made....
click Aug 17th, 06, 05:47 PM followed my car on ebay and it didnt meet reserve. Seller and I had exchanged some questions and answers. He emailed a week after the ebay was over and we started talking, a few weeks later it was in my garage :)
zuma Aug 17th, 06, 05:58 PM Looked at a few rust bucket 69's before I found this one on Yahoo search for newpaper ads in my area. Saw it in the Sacramento Bee, but the car was located in Santa Rosa. I planned to meet the owner there at 11:00am (he had someone else looking at it at the same time as well so I showed up at 10:30  ) Bought it on the spot. I heard that the other guy was pretty upset that he was too late:) Picked it up the next day.
big mike Aug 17th, 06, 06:07 PM It's a long story! Originally I found my Camaro sitting in front of a house between my parents house and my High School. For whatever reason, my dad let me talk him into buying it for himself (this was in 1981). It was very rough. It still had the original paint and it looked to have been outside it's entire life. Dad had it restored and then gave it to me in 1983 which was my senior year of High School. Great dad huh? Anyway, I had a brain cramp in 1985 and decided to sell it. I figured when I got out of college I would just get another one. Twenty years later, my mother passed away. (My dad passed away in 1996) While I was going through mountains of paperwork at my parents house, I came across an old registration for the 68SS. I told my sister about it. She mentioned it to a friend of hers who is in Law enforcement. Her friend ran the VIN, located the car and its owner, and passed the information on to me. I called the owner and explained to him that his car used to belong to my late father and that I would like to buy it back. He told me to forget about it and that he would never sell it. Three months later, he sent me an email telling me that he had changed his mind and that if I still wanted it, he would give me the first shot at it. I rented a trailer the next weekend, drove about 500 miles round trip, and now my 68SS is in my garage where it belongs. It will not leave my family again. Sorry for the length of my story, but this is honestly the condensed version. Mike
67CAMAROSS Aug 17th, 06, 06:09 PM Got Mine From The Og. Owner Five Miles From Home , He Got It New At Jay Jay Chevrolet In Biloxi Ms.
68DaveV Aug 17th, 06, 06:23 PM We were living in Spokane WA at the time, in 1995. My wife and I were driving down the street and she says, look there's a Camaro for sale in that parking lot. Then she said, Oh by the way, it's yours...I bought it for you.
She knew I had regretted selling my 69 in the 70's. I plan on keeping her and the car.
Rocketrod Aug 17th, 06, 06:39 PM I found my online at an obscure website. The car was within a 100 miles, so I decided to take a look. Before he even had the garage door fully opened I knew it was a keeper.
Joe Harrison Aug 17th, 06, 06:43 PM Well it's sort of a long story but a good one........at least I think so.
In 1997 my two girls played softball on a bobby socks team for years (still played through High School) and one day at a practice a lady saw me drive up in my 69 Chevelle. She told my better half that she hated old cars like that and wished her husband would get rid of the pile of crap Camaro that has been sitting in their driveway for the last six years or so.
When I was done working with some of the girls I came over to say Hi and Donna tells me I think you might want to know about this and tells what the woman had said, I ask he about the car and all she would tell me is that it was red, ugly, needed a new home or to be hauled off to the junk yard. It was her husband’s first car and he bought it in 1971 or 72. I asked about a year….she told me I don’t know all I know is it’s pile of crap and they have talked of selling it and decided if they could get $500.00 for it they would sell it.
I thought ummm second gen 70-72 but it must be pretty bad off. When practice was over she asked me to come over to the house and as we are pulling out of the parking lot I thought I need some money just incase. She asked well are you sure. I said yes and then went out on limb and told her. No matter the condition I will buy it as long as it has an engine. Then she tells me that’s why it’s sitting the engine is it but it blew up after he had it rebuilt. I get there and guess what, it’s my 67 Camaro.
I had it towed home and gave it a rub and scrub. Found the engine had about 8 broken valve springs and almost all the push rods were bent. It had a 750 double pumper spread bore carb on it. I found a 2bbl carb and intake cheap rebuilt them, fixed everything else. Cleaned the gas tank and she fired right up. Since then I have put about 75,000 miles on the engine. I just put a vortec top end on it. The pictures below are of it after I cleaned it up and got it running. Not a bad deal for $500.00. In that picture I had all the used parts for the valve train already and only paid $10.00 for the intake and carb and $15.00 for the rebuild kit so at $525.00 it’s running and driving!!! One pic below of current engine and subframe that are in work. She is in paint prison right now.

HwyStarJoe Aug 17th, 06, 07:30 PM Early '99 I had the itch for another classic Chevy to restore and mess around with. I mentioned it to the wife one day and she said "Then start looking for one." She loves old classics as well.
I'd always been partial to Chevelles and that's basically what I started looking for. It wasn't two weeks later after the wife gave the go-ahead that this nasty relic of a Camaro suddenly showed up in a lot owned by the service station that was right at the end of our street! 5 houses away.
I popped in, asked whose it was, and met one of the guys that worked there a day later. He'd been working on it, replacing the floors and trunk, then started a family and had to dump it.
He wanted $1000 so I offered him $500. It was rusty, mostly bare metal or single coat of primer and 90% of the car was in boxes. He said the motor had to come out and it was mine for $500. I told him he could come by and take it out whenever he wanted. I towed it home and started disassembling it, waiting for him to come get the 400ci that was in the car. He finally gave up trying to come and get it (he lived 3 houses away!) and said that it was mine.
I sold the engine to a guy who blew his 400 on the strip a couple months later. He pulled the engine himself. :)
kz1000ltd Aug 17th, 06, 07:41 PM On the side of the road in a church parking lot, day after Christmas last year, was actually on my way to look at a 70 Ford Torino GT convertible! If that's not divine intervention, I don't know what is.........:D:D:D

gb70 Aug 17th, 06, 08:47 PM Was at home when my next door neighbor calls me from his cell phone and I can hear this wicked sound and I ask him, "what are you driving?" He tells me it is Craigs '69 Camaro RS, SS, Z-28, and he is selling it. He gave my neighbor the keys to cruise and of course my neighbor knows how much I love Camaros. My neighbor pulls into my driveway before we were off the phone. My jaw hit the ground and he throws me the keys. The rest is history. Hey, good freinds look out for each oher. I still thank him now and then.
UCDOG Aug 17th, 06, 10:38 PM Click my story is a lot like yours, I followed mine on E-Bay and it did not meet reserve. I had been asking the owner some questions over the phone and we agreed on a price. I left Columbia on a Tuesday afternoon and drove down to Tampa. Loaded it up and drove all night back to Columbia. Pulled in my driveway at 7:00 Wed. morning with my car.
ZAPPER68 Aug 18th, 06, 12:52 AM In 1995 I was on holidays at my brothers in Newport Beach, CA. and went up to Classic Industries to buy some parts for my 70 Chevelle. There on a magazine rack was a 1967-1968 Camaro Z/28 Fact Book by Jerry MacNeish. I always liked the 1st generation Camaros and bought the book for reading on the plane when heading back home to the Middle East.
A couple of days later I checked in at LAX and spied a Hemmings on the rack. Thought that too would be good reading on the plane. Lo and behold there was a 68 Z/28 advertised for sale in Kansas, all original with cowl plenum air cleaner. Yeah sure. When I got home I phoned Hutchinson KS and said I was very interested in the Camaro, but would like to have someone check out the cars pedigree. Another call, this time to Jerry MacNeish. Unfortunately, he was busy racing and didn't have the time for a trip to Kansas. Time was running out, others were interested in the car and after seeing a couple pictures of it, I went out on a limb and bought it sight unseen.
I was lucky, the car was everything the owner indicated.

buenymayor Aug 18th, 06, 03:43 AM Seen mine for sale in '88 at Super Chevy Sunday in Indy. My friend wanted to buy it, but a couple days later decided against it. Luckily I wrote down the guys phone number, so I called him. Two days later it is in my garage.

dcordle Aug 18th, 06, 07:12 AM I spent a few months looking on ebay, magazines and papers but couldn't find one I wanted in my price range. One day my son and I were near the neighborhood where I was born so I drove by the house to show him. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this 68 camaro in the yard next door with a for sale sign. I hadn't been by there in at least 15 years. I stopped and the guy wanted $7k for it. I told him I only had $5k to spend. He took it.
Everett#2390 Aug 18th, 06, 07:25 AM I found and bought mine from a local tow lot 20 years ago.
Jason1968Camaro Aug 18th, 06, 07:54 AM Ebay. It was about 10 miles from my house. I went to look at it before bidding. They guy was new to ebay and preferred to sell locally. He ended the auction, and I bought it.
bobs86iroc Aug 18th, 06, 08:53 AM my 84 sport coupe i found in my uncles drive way, my 85 berlineta i found in a field down the road from my house, and my 86 iroc was a gift from my dad on graduation day well he put a down payment on it i had to pay the rest sold the first two and trying to sell the last one if i can.
sandiegoz28 Aug 18th, 06, 09:50 AM Mine was posted in the San Fernando Valley edition of the Recycler back in 1989. I went to take a look. Decent condition, but the paint was rough. The guy wanted $12,000. We went back-and forth negotiating and couldn't settle on a price.
6 Months later, still wanting that RS Z, I contacted him and asked if he still had the car. Sure enough, he did. We settled for $10K, which, in 1990, was a lot for Z, but it was an original RS Z, decent color, with low miles.
Have had it since, just need to finish the resto.
Here's what it looked like the day I bought it:

And a few weeks later after replacing the wheels and adding a front spoiler - a little better, but still needing a resto:

GM Parts1 Aug 18th, 06, 09:55 AM in the news paper 1994 classified. $2300 I think. I traded my 86 IROC for it. I only paid 3000 for the 86. Drove it 3 yrs. and traded it for the 69 and got $200 to go with it :)
maxharvard Aug 18th, 06, 09:58 AM Found mine in a barn... just sitting for nearly 10 years. All it needed was a battery and some fresh gas and she started right up! :D
sleepsinshed Aug 18th, 06, 10:13 AM Spent 2 years driving all over New England chasing leads and ads for dozens of mis-represented cars. Finally found mine in the Auto Hunter. It was in the next town over, and was probably the best one I looked at.
Dayton68Z28 Aug 18th, 06, 10:23 AM A good friend of mine from high school owed the car. I told him I would buy the car if he ever wanted to sell. Several years later, he calls. I was at his office in less than 5 minutes with checkbook in hand.
robert68 Aug 18th, 06, 12:40 PM Found mine right here on Camaros.net, guy selling it was only 10 min. away. Picked it up bright and early on Thanksgiving day 2005. Didn't shop very long and probably overpaid but I don't care!
Hank's 68 Aug 18th, 06, 01:14 PM I got mine on Racingjunk.com. Car was located in a small town about 75 miles north of my home
MrDanB Aug 18th, 06, 06:13 PM Found mine in the "Little Nickel" newspaper for $2,000 6 years ago. It was in a trailer park in Lynnwood, Wa. I thought it was green due to all the evergreen tree crud on it, but a good wash/buff revealed that it was, in fact, #52 garnet red with a black vinyl top....
Dano:)
mjsmilford Aug 18th, 06, 06:28 PM i first saw my camaro way back in 1990, and i asked the friend that owned it how much to sell. NOT FOR SALE, he said. so for 14 yrs. i weekly asked to purchase.......this dear friend of mine came down with the cancer and he left me in his will the best thing ever possible. so i did not "find" my camaro, i acquired it

J Meadows Aug 18th, 06, 09:24 PM July 1973 just got divorced, I needed to get rid of the 72 VW Bug and get myself something worthy of a bachelor. I heard of a Yellow 69 Z-28 that was owned by an old School classmate. I gave him a call and asked him if he was interested in a 72 VW as trade. He wanted $2000 so we traded straight across, my 72 VW Super Beetle and his 69 Z-28. I have owned the Z-28 ever since.
Jerry
PS: the VW was Yellow Also
DougP Aug 18th, 06, 09:31 PM I found my first 69 Camaro through a friend of a friend and bought it as a rolling chassis. I bought my current 69 from a local guy after I saw it advertised on eBay.
69camaroinia Aug 18th, 06, 09:48 PM 1985 found it in the repo corner of a local credit union for $500. It was hit on 3 sides, but not killed. After a year of work I had one of the coolest cars at school (69 camaro, daytona yellow, with sb). I'm glad I never sold it. I wonder if the previous owner still has the key??? (no the car didn't come with keys).
jr68 Aug 18th, 06, 10:21 PM In the spring of 1979 I was married almost one year and I saw the ad in the local paper for a 68 Camaro. My new bride and I went to check it out , the owner was about my age maybe 20 or so. It had a 327 , Muncie , posi , headers , perfect car for me to beat and thats just what I did after giving him $950. for it. Well 27 years later and I'm giving it what it deserves a total restoration. My wife on the other hand is low maintenance and still looks as good as the day we were married. (I'm not kidding )
xplantdad Aug 19th, 06, 08:54 AM The story of how my brother found his 1967 Marina Blue RS/SS 396 Camaro can be found here (saves me from typing it over :) ).

lite em up Aug 19th, 06, 06:31 PM kind of long but, I traded it for my 70 nova. A friend of mine asked me to help him pull the motor. After the motor was out, I convinced him he should remove the subframe to clean it up. One thing led to another and the car was completey disassembled. He ended up selling his house & did not want to move all the pieces, so he traded me since the nova was complete & running.

69L65-4spd Aug 19th, 06, 10:24 PM Saw mine parked in a lot behind my credit union in 1987. Restoration started by previous owner but car had been repo-ed by credit union. Missing all chrome, interior shot, clutch/tranny problems, but much of the body work done and in partial primer. $1200 and I thought that was too much. I remember passing on a 68Z that had been hit in the rear for only $600.
mbmmca Aug 20th, 06, 07:22 AM My FIL found it in the back woods of Arkansas. I went down w/ trailer and picked it up. It is now on its way to new life.
BelAirBob Aug 20th, 06, 07:29 AM Scoured the classifieds one morning after KZ called me.... Beat the throngs of folks to the car on a Sat morning and ended up with my Z later that day.
ZZMike Aug 20th, 06, 07:43 AM I inherited mine.
JIM68 Aug 20th, 06, 07:46 AM found mine thru some generic website in 2001... some guy in southern jersey had one too many projects. i'm just now starting to get it back together with new items...
bmaudlin Aug 20th, 06, 08:52 AM I found mine 5 years ago in a salvage yard as a stripped shell sitting on top of a stripped out 68 Firebird. I looked for a good complete car to buy, but cars that were needing basically a complete body rebuild were going for 10 times the 500.00 dollars I paid and basically needed everything i ended up replacing on the shell replaced!!
jackr Aug 20th, 06, 10:00 AM My plum 67 RS was advertised in the Phoenix paper. That car was a bit rough but a rust free somewhat driving car. I think I bought it in 2000 for $4000. Still have that one.
A buddy turned me on to an unadvertised hugger 69Z with wrong engine and its garage mate 6 cylinder 67 RS. Both were real decent cars. The Z is with a well known COPO collector in Iowa now.
A few years ago I placed a wanted ad for a first gen camaro on some other camaro website. Got a call from a guy in So. California. Looked at the car in the pouring rain and bought it. That one turned out to be an original big block (missing BB engine) but nice rust free 68 4-speed SS/RS with -- paint code on the tag. I am almost embarrased to say I paid 800.00 bucks for it. Let that one go to a guy in Michigan who may still visit this site.
Probably the best one isn't mine but a buddy from NY. He also visits this site. Looking for a 69 during the BJ auction time a few years back I spotted an ad in the paper for a 67 SS/RS. We go over to the guys house and the car is a very nice nantucket blue with deluxe bright blue interior 4-speed A/C car. The original #'s 350 sitting on an engine stand. Make a deal and drive it away. The seller called me at least 4 times after that. He had severe sellers remorse.
BNZFixr Aug 20th, 06, 04:15 PM My father-in-law has a good friend/retired co-worker that moved out of state a few years ago. They bought an RV and travel a lot since retirement. No time for the '69 as it sat in the garage mostly. I inquired although I was in the process of restoring a 'Plane Jane' '69. Saw pic's of the car and wanted it bad! Begged wife and then struck a good deal with the owners. Flew out and drove it home. Sold project.
Peter Constantine Aug 20th, 06, 06:26 PM I actually saw mine parked on the street in the next town over. The rear window had been blown out and was covered with plastic. A short while later I saw it in a parking lot with a For Sale sign on it.It was definatley the same car.It was black with gold stripes, gold 8" rallys and the fenders had been stretched out to cover huge Goodyear Rally GT's.It also had Hooker Sidemount headers on it.I struck a deal for $1300.
Amptech Aug 20th, 06, 08:38 PM I used to deliver auto parts to different repair and body shops. I saw it at one of the body shops and asked if it was a customers, or someone who worked there. One of the guys who worked there said, he had bought it, but after thinking about it, didn't have the time to do the project. I bought the car for $800. I thought it was a pretty steep price, but it had a bunch of new parts in the trunk and back seat. Those parts were a set of NOS wheel opening mouldings, NOS windshield trim moulding front and rear, NOS grille, all new NOS clutch linkage and pedal set to convert a auto to a stick, and some other goodies. When I think back, maybe it wasn't too much to pay.
egore Aug 20th, 06, 08:56 PM Now dont laugh but mine was advertised as a cuda in osseo mn, anyhow bought it in 79 drove it through highschool, put new metal on it in 84 & showed it a few times, came out with a few trophys & now putting in entire new interior.origanal highschool car & my buddys sold all of there highschool muscle cars & their regretting it everytime they see mine

Mister G Aug 21st, 06, 04:06 PM This guy had it stuck away in his garage. My buddy saw it and a week later we payed the guy a visit. Even though he had the car for 17 years, he said he had no plans for the car but was moving to Arizona soon. I took that as an invite to make him an offer, thinking he might not want to go through the hassle of moving it. I drove it home the next day.
dreamweaver Aug 21st, 06, 09:58 PM First one I found by starting a thread here on TC --- "Gonna Get a 69". A month or so later I found a thread about a guy who was going to go look at someone that was selling 3 of them in his area. I contacted him, told him I would be interested in one of them. He checked them out, reported back to me, and I bought one of them.
#2 and #3 I found on Craigslist in my area. I was the first on there on both of them.
Sassy8722 Aug 21st, 06, 11:53 PM I found my 82 in the Trader paper, and not too long ago I went to a Camaro/Firebird place/junkyard and found my 89. I went to look for some parts for my 82 but I fell in love with the 89 and couldn't help but buy it.
davezila Sep 1st, 06, 12:18 PM Ebay! Asked seller "how much to end auction?" Done deal - no hesitation. Seller said there was a ton of interest in the car and I could make $10 grand if I wanted to "flip" the purchase - "no thanks" I said. Picked it up approx 50 miles from my home. All smiles since then. Entered in two events - One "best antique vehicle" trophy in a DC parade and one First Place at the GM Nationals. Gettin ready for a top-down, scenic drivin', road trip from DC to Vegas (maybe CA) next week baby!
Granny's 69 Sep 1st, 06, 12:22 PM Grandma's House....:)
purple69ss Sep 1st, 06, 01:39 PM Found mine in an ad in the Dallas Morning News about 40 miles from my house in June of 2000. I wanted a 69 Camaro since I was 14 years old.
BPOS Sep 1st, 06, 02:09 PM My wife (GF then) found it sitting in front of the tavern she thought I was in - I wasn't. She went in and asked who owned it and $4,000 later it was mine. This was in 1987.

clwilcox33 Sep 1st, 06, 02:47 PM My dad special ordered his first 67 Madeira Maroon RS/SS back in 67. Babies started popping up some time later and he went down and traded it in on a used 68 Biscayne station wagon. Mom was even mad at the time. he talked about that car my whole life growing up. I knew I had to have one someday!
Camaro #1
One of my high school teachers back in 88 mentioned one day to our class that if anyone was interested, that her and her husband were looking to sell an old Chevy if anyone was interested. No one answered. I waited till after class and asked her about it. It was a 67 Camaro. I went and looked at it that weekand they said they wanted $1000.00 for it. It was a plain jane 6cyl coupe that she bought new in 67 and used it to drive to school (work) everyday for over 20 years. I made a deal that I would pay her something like $150.00 a week until it was half paid off, pick it up, then continue to pay the rest. Hey, I just had a $4/hr high school job! Anyway, a few weeks later I was driving my father's town car and totaled it. So he went and paid the rest on the Camaro and started driving it. We restored that one together and painted it the same color as his original car. It was originally a Gold/Gold car; changed to Maroon/Black (int). Here's the car with my dad in front of it:

Camaro #2
About 6 months or so after Dad bought the first one, I still really wanted "my own" Camaro, so I had a friend that knew of a 67 RS/SS about 1.5 hours from my house. I went and looked at it and bought it on the spot for $1100 and drove it home. Man was that car a rust bucket; but it ran like a bat out of hell. I took it home and spray bombed it in black primer and drove it for a several years just like that. I then had someone plow into the front end of the car when they ran a red light. Pulled the engine and trans, sold the car for $600 and stuck the drivetrain in an old 70 SB/SS C-10. I really need to find my old pics of that car!
Camaro #3
Ebay! Bid on it at the last minute and paid WAY TOO MUCH for it (over $3000). 67 RS/SS350 Marina Blue car painted red at the time (it's not going back to original color either) Guess what color it's going to be!?! Madeira Maroon!! :D Drove up to Kansas from Dallas and loaded it up on the trailer.
Anyway, here's the car as I bought it:

Here's a link (http://www.67rs-ss.net/my67/gallery.asp) to the in progress pictures if anyone cares.
Oh, Dad sold Camaro #1 before I bought Camaro #3. Some guy pulled up to next to him at a stop light and asked him if it was for sale sometime around 1999. Dad threw out $6k and the guy snatched it up   I'm still a little bit angry inside over that one :D But I love my dad anyway! I really wanted that car even though it was nothing exceptional. It was just a project that we worked on together.
The one I'd REALLY like to find would be the Camaro I mentioned in the beginning that dad bought new! It'll never happen though unfortunately.

Martineer Sep 2nd, 06, 07:59 AM Back in the early 80s, ex brother in law needed some money. He owed his sister (my wife at the time) some money also. I gave him the money he needed and cancelled his debt to his sister. She is gone :hurray: but I still have the Camaro

GMJoe Sep 2nd, 06, 11:22 AM I found mine after getting home from spring carsille, jumped on ebay and it had just been posted. i sent an email to the owner who replied minutes later asking when id like to come see it, my reply was "How about now "
i grabbed a wad of cash & hopped in my truck and headed off to Maryland to take a look.
i was surprised at the condition and all the extra parts included so i made an offer and he stopped auction early and even towed it home for me the same night.
Stewie Sep 2nd, 06, 01:02 PM I found mine right here on this board. The car was local though in Canada.
It sat on here for 5 months and I noticed the area code and realized it was 30 miles away. All I have had to do is take off some braided steel hose covers, and pull the windhsield, and rear glass and resintall them with new stainless. Spring ring cables and a new top post Delco.

MStennes Sep 5th, 06, 02:53 PM sorry this is so long but my 69 is a True survivor, back in 90 a Friend of mine was a long haul trucker and had to take a load back to Missouri. He was supposed to be in there on a Friday night so he could get unloaded well a bunch of problems later he pulls into where he was supposed to go early Saturday morning. Since its Saturday and no way to get unloaded hes got nothing to do but sit. He calls his dispatcher who says the load he need for the back haul had to get going so they had another of their trucks haul it. Hes bored to death so he starts wondering around the local area sight seeing whatever and comes up to this building that has caution stickers and demolition equipment all around it. He starts getting nosy to see why its being destroyed without anyone cleaning it out. He had looked in the windows and saw some old Harley's and some old cars in there. Well now hes real curious and decides to in and look around. Most of the cars had been beat pretty bad but there was a 67 SS Chevelle and my 69 RS/SS convertible sitting there. Well now hes freaking out these cars are going to be left in when they demolish the building and hauled off. He finds the number of the contractor in the Yellow Pages, calls the guy and he says that they are going to start demolishing on Tuesday so he breaks down the door (with permission) and proceeds to start getting these 2 cars out all by himself. Well that didn't work but when he was being unloaded he asked if any of the dock handlers would be interested in hiring out for a few hours. He gets them to help air the tires and push the cars over to the dock and load them up. He called up his dispatcher (who is a Harley nut) tells him whats going on. His dispatcher says no problem you pay for the fuel home and your good to go. He didn't tell his dispatcher that there were 2 old Harley's in there also. He drives back to Washington and pulls into the yard gets his dispatcher to "help" him unload who sees the Harley's and freaks out. The dispatcher covered his fuel and all I had to pay was $400.00. He stuck me with the bill for hiring the 4 guys at a $100.00 a head. So as you can see both cars and the Harley's are survivors. Our biggest problem was getting titles but that really wasn't a problem either Missouri DMV helped us out they ran the cars, found some out of business bank had liens on them but since the bank had been bought out I thought crap. I called the bank they told me what to do and in about month I had a release of interest in my hands. I know its a long story but everyone seems to like it. BTW the car want perfect and needed a complete tear down and rebuilding but it was rust free and had not been driven since 77. Best of all it had its original drive train still in it.
Brackneyc Sep 5th, 06, 03:10 PM Found mine in the local paper. Looked at it three times before buying. Took check over the first time, and backed out. The guy was cool about it. Looked again, and bought it on the third trip. It is now officially done. Done as in, now I will begin to replace the individual parts over the next 50 years. It looks awesome now, but I know what needs to be replaced. I found myself asking if the whole project was worth it (this last weekend matter of fact). I was chasing leaks and tranny problems. Now that I can go out, start it and drive it anywhere I want, I am glad I did it. :)
