Is it just me, or why is it that nearly every block advertised on ebay for sale as an original Z block has 4 bolt mains, and BOLTS. I hardly ever see one that has the studs to mount the windage tray. I would think the caps would be attached as built with bolts and studs. What do you guys think? Just makes me think the blocks are fakes.

I think like you. My engine is a real one, and it has the studs for the windage tray like you said. These are probably "want to be Z" block so they can command more money. Every car/engine can't be a real one, they only made 20,000 + .

I think the actual number was 20,302!

20,302 is only for the 1969 "DZ" blocks. Don't forget 67 & 68 "MO" & "MP" blocks

For me, those windage studs were a standard as well as the windge tray and trap door oil pans and baffles. Think you just have to know what they are and their function in any motor but the DZ, MO & MP blocks , opened peoples minds.

67 & 68 engines were 2 bolt blocks ...

My '68 Z that I had from '71 to '73 had a "CE" replacement block. It was a 4 bolt main block with windage tray and baffled oil pan.
I did have to mod the windage tray and oil pan when I installed that motor into a '72 vega in '75. (It was also a large journal crank)
My 2 cents,

Question?
Did the early Z's use the hi-po 327 windage tray?
I know I installed one in my junk301 way back there.
