View Full Version : Got Another One
dreamweaver Aug 18th, 06, 11:24 PM Well, I guess I am a confirmed Obesessive / Compulsive. 4 months ago the thought o owning a first generation Camaro didn't even cross my mind. Now it's practically all I think about. I spend countless hours every week scouring the newspapers, internet and neighborhood looking for cars. I have looked at a lot of other types but, whenever I see a 69 Camaro, I tell myself "I have to have it".
So this morning I saw an ad on the internet, rounded up a few frineds, hooked up the flatbed trailer, and drive over to the Bay Area and bought another 69. In the deal was a rotisserie, a car dolly, an extra engine, and a 99% complete car in pieces. I'll post the pics in series:
dreamweaver Aug 18th, 06, 11:25 PM Here's the first thing I saw when I drove up:

Nope... that's not gonna work... any other ideas?
dreamweaver Aug 19th, 06, 12:34 AM I know... let's jack it up as high as we can so that, whe it does fall, it will make a loud enough noise so that the neighbors will come out and lend a hand.

Jonesy Aug 19th, 06, 06:36 AM Looks like a decent project. What's wrong with it? Is it an LA Car??
Buck Aug 19th, 06, 07:01 AM Only thing I see wrong with it is it isn't a 67... :)
Looks like a decent project. What's wrong with it? Is it an LA Car??
camaroman7d Aug 19th, 06, 07:28 AM Steve,
You are out of control, LOL. Congrats on the new purchase, looks like a very solid project and plenty of work to keep you busy.
clwilcox33 Aug 19th, 06, 07:56 AM I know the feeling, I'm over a year away from mine being done, maybe 2, and I'm really really wanting a couple more :D
dreamweaver Aug 19th, 06, 09:26 AM Yes. I am out of control. Is it possible to have too many projects at once? I think not.
It is a Norwood car (my first):

1NAST69 Aug 19th, 06, 09:32 AM Congrats Man, looks like a nice project! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Mike
dreamweaver Aug 19th, 06, 09:55 AM I have a tentative plan. It may be a bit upside-down, but tell me what you think:
My "Baby" is a 69 SS, #'s car that I got out of a barn in Oregon. As I have started teraing it apart I have found what would be expected for a car that was just sitting for 20 plus years... a little rot here, a little rust there, etc. Most of the parts are still salvageab,e but, after blasting, etc. I have a feeling they will only be in "OK" condition.
This new car needs some work (needs a new LH quarter, and a few other pieces) but most of the parts are in excellent shape. There are some parts on this car that are in much, much better condition than what is on my SS:
There's an NOS radiator support
Both inner fenders
Front end parts and pieces
Most of the chrome trim
Etc.
This car is already completely stripped. My plan is to strip the SS car and compare parts and pieces side by side. I would take the best of everything and put it on the SS and whatever is leftover would go on this car. So, it's kind of a doner-work-in-progress car.
Since I have been chastised in the past for not posting pics in my other threads http://www.camaros.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif I'll probably make up for it in this thread.... I took a bunch:
Here's one showing some of the work ahead:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Misc/RustyDash3.jpg (http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Misc/?start=#imgAnch3)
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Misc/RustyDash1.jpg (http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Misc/?start=#imgAnch5)
camaroman7d Aug 19th, 06, 10:12 AM Maybe I missed it but, Why does the new car need a 1/4 panel? Looks like there might be a dent in it but, these things can be repaired. In all but, a few cases it is sheaper, easier to repair what you have. If you buy a repo panel chances are it is not going to fit well and will need additional work. If the 1/4 is rotted out that is a different story.
dreamweaver Aug 19th, 06, 10:26 AM First pic --- Look at the left side of the sail.... there's a chunk about2" or 3" that is rusted through.
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Arrival2/Arrival28.jpg (http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Arrival2/?start=#imgAnch5)

Now look at the quarter... it's pretty mangled:
http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Arrival1/Arrival7.jpg (http://s82.photobucket.com/albums/j271/dreamweaver10/69%20Sea%20Mist/Pick%20Up/Arrival1/?start=#imgAnch6)
Included in the deal is a brand new, in the box, goodmark quarter and passenger fender. I don't know if what is there can be repaired or not, but I'm figuring it would probably be easier and cheaper to replace. I have head about all the "mis-fits".... maybe I can find the right person who won't butcher it. it will be a while, so I have time to decide, shop for a body person, etc.
camaroman7d Aug 19th, 06, 10:31 AM I wouldn't be afraid to cut that piece out and make a patch panel for it. That's assuming the rest of the metal is not too bad. I know making up a patch would be 100times easier than replacing the whole panel. You have to work with what you have and hopefully you can find a good shop to deal with. If you're lucky you will find a guy that wants to make a little money on the side.
dreamweaver Aug 19th, 06, 10:59 AM Hey Royce.... I have a question for ya:
"Wanna make a little money on the side?" http://www.camaros.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif

kz1000ltd Aug 19th, 06, 12:16 PM Save those wheel well moldings if they are originals! :D:D:D
zuma Aug 19th, 06, 12:50 PM Congrats Steve!! (I think! ;) ) I guess you didn't have enough 69's to play with already. LOL I say sell the 2 non SS cars when done and buy a 69 vert! :D
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/Zuma1211/DrPhil.jpg
BTW, I have a complete set of driver quality dark green door panels if you feel the need to pull out that wallet again...:)
camaroman7d Aug 19th, 06, 03:19 PM I guess I did walk into that one. I have my hands full with my current project and I am sure there will be one right behind this one. Not to mention I only work on my own cars. Thanks for the offer though, LOL.
dreamweaver Aug 19th, 06, 03:45 PM I was only kidding Royce. But, you did ask for it :)
Here's a couple of how we got it off at my house (I got this forklift in my last Camaro deal :) :

That's me driving the forklift and my good friend Roland doing the "stuff-the-brake-line-wherever-you-can" assist:

69 350 SS Aug 21st, 06, 07:13 AM damn ......... next time im in modesto im comin to say hello :)
stevea Aug 21st, 06, 07:24 AM How many does that make? 3
I also thought it was you and you brother Darryl and your other brother Darryl?
dreamweaver Aug 21st, 06, 10:06 AM damn ......... next time im in modesto im comin to say hello :)
You're welcome to stop in and say "hello", but you might have to grab a wrench. I am hoping that within a month I will have the "other" green one torn down, so parts and pieces will be flying everywhere.
How many does that make? 3
I also thought it was you and you brother Darryl and your other brother Darryl?
Yeah... it's 3, but I'm thinking that 3 is just too "round" of a number - just doesn't seem to be quite right. Looking for #4 http://www.camaros.net/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif.
I would think that if I only kept it at three I could run into problems. I'm thinking that the "new addition" would perfect for the wife... it has factory A/C, it's only a 307, and it has a "colored" interior (not that "basic" black interior). We could cruise down the road together, yet seperate.
Then there's the girls.... I have 2 daughters - 7 and 10 years old. Someday, they will be driving, and I think it only right to start them off in a Camaro. If I only have 3, then the other will feel left out. And, by the time they start driving, can you imagine what the price of these things will be?
So you see, I'm doing this for the good of the family, and to be frugal in how the money is spent. Being a good father and a good husband, this is the only rationale (sic) thing to do... I'm sure you will all agree.
77thor Aug 21st, 06, 10:39 AM looks like a nice start...
69camarofast Aug 21st, 06, 11:18 AM let see 4 in your family and three Camaros..well i think you should have at least 6 or more 4 isnt a good number either..everyone should have one, plus you need some to build and sell or just keep..you dont want to run out of projects do you?..;) ..i would like to stop by dream, and see your shop filled with first Gen.s your finding the good deals now..don't stop! 69's Rule!
